To print out a map to follow while reading a book?

Grin

Does anyone else do this? Or just me?

I like to see where I am when I’m reading a book. If it’s just a normal book I can look up the map on my phone. But I’m reading on my phone now and its a real faff having to flick between kindle and google images so I’m going to have to print out a map to refer to while reading.

Please tell me I’m not the only one!

It adds a whole other level to the story for me.

Depends whether it's Lord Of The Rings or Me Tickle

ADreamOfGood · 31/03/2020 01:00

@adreamofgood In fairness Mr Tickles arms stretch a long way! Maybe just a local street view map needed though?

MyOtherProfile · 31/03/2020 01:07

You know when you read a thread and you feel like you've found your people?

SuburbanFraggle · 31/03/2020 01:09

Oh I always ignore the map. I'd rather be gently befuddled than have to cross reference things.

Fluffymule · 31/03/2020 01:10

Oh I love a map to refer to as well. A family tree too!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 01:12

@fluffymule I do love a family tree as well!!

DonttouchthatLarry · 31/03/2020 01:13

MyOtherProfile - yes!

Purpletigers - same here, always been a bit obsessed with maps Grin

Bafflingthird · 31/03/2020 01:13

I used to pause the start of game of thrones so I could study the maps and the wooden diagram thing.

Bafflingthird · 31/03/2020 01:14

You, you are my people. I like books with a family tree at the front. Sometimes I check their accuracy

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 01:15

@bafflingthird the start of GOT is a work of art all by itself, especially watching it evolve over the seasons. I’d already ready the books so new the Geography but it was like map porn for me watching it 😂😂

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 31/03/2020 01:15

Fluffymule you took the words right out of my mouth. The only thing better than a map is surely a family tree.
The “Across the nightingale floor” series is good for this.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 01:15

Read and knew!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 31/03/2020 01:17

reminds me of my favourite bookshop, Daunts in Marylebone,
The basement is organised by region and country. In each section you get a selection of maps, then travel guides, and then fiction set in that country.

Bafflingthird · 31/03/2020 01:18

MapPorn! Grin

Ok well whilst we’re talking dirty, I like to get old Ordnance survey maps and look up ancient features, and then see what they look like on Google Earth. And when I discovered LIDAR I didn’t leave the house for weeks.

Bafflingthird · 31/03/2020 01:19

Daunts in Marylebone OMG I love it. I had some fertility treatment near there and used to go there daily and had my little green Daunts cloth bag!!!!

Fluffymule · 31/03/2020 01:20

I quite enjoy an extensive list of characters too. The type authors like Jilly Cooper would include in her chunky blockbusters - "Bunty Fairfax - Blond haired buxom sister to Felix, secretary to Lawyer Edward de Montford, lives in shared flat with Fee Lupton-Symth in Pimlico. Fearless skier, skilled horsewoman, good egg"

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 31/03/2020 01:20

Yes a family tree too! Equally as important.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 31/03/2020 01:21

Family Trees!
I read the Hare with Amber Eyes last year, and spent the entire book wishing there was a family tree,

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 01:22

@Bafflingthird LIDAR, never heard of it before...I now need some private time in a quiet room!!! Be back later 😂😂

managedmis · 31/03/2020 01:23

Bill Bryson's Walk in the Woods includes a map of the Appalachian Trail I think

I get you, op, I get you Grin
