Posting here for traffic.

I'm ok the phone to 111 but been an hour so far and still waiting just wanted to get some opinions.

Last Sunday my 4 year old got diagnosed with tonsillitis over the phone (GP hub) got given antibiotics which he's been on for 8 days and seemed to be getting better however his temperature has shot back up in the last 24 hours and is 39.5 without paracetamol, 38.1 when he has paracetamol.
He woke up last night vomiting and with a headache, had been complaining of a headache all day, neither paracetamol or nurofen for kids seems to be working. He is saying his eyes hurt and that he is cold but he is very got to touch.
My question is do you think I should give up on 111 and just take him to a&e or would that be a massive over reaction on my part?

A+E this happened to my dd on the back on tonsillitis. She was on antibiotics and went downhill. It was sepsis.

A&E.

A 10yo girl in Plymouth was diagnosed with coronavirus after a week or so of it being originally diagnosed as tonsillitis.

A+E. Explain at reception he is fevered they maybe using a separate area for any ?covid patients. You have described a number of red flags he requires urgent assessment.

isadoradancing123 · 30/03/2020 19:26

Def A and E. There is a letter from a paediatrician on another site stating that Some parents are not getting their children seen quickly enough due to corona virus, hence they are seeing more seriously ill kids. If there is a childrens A and E near you go there

Selfsettling3 · 30/03/2020 19:26

A and E for me. The sensitivity to light is worrying and he needs checking.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 30/03/2020 19:29

Go to A and E.

I've had this with both my kids 'Tonsillitis' but comes back with severe headache and vomiting, not able to keep fluids or meds down.
Ended up on hospital both times.

Bloody horrible bug whether Covid, tonsillitis (not convinced), flu or whatever.
Brutal AF.

Hope you're OK op, it's blood scary.
Please update us when your boy is well and you've peeled yourself down from the ceiling.

Darbs76 · 30/03/2020 19:39

I’d not take any chances and drive him to A&E. good luck OP

jess3817 · 30/03/2020 19:47

Hope you're ok and please update on how your little boy is when you're able too. Xx

WestWasnt · 30/03/2020 19:51

I hope they get him feeling more comfortable very soon and it’s nothing serious. Remember to take some snacks, bottle of water, phone charger, maybe tablet if he’s feeling up to watching something.

Myfriendanxiety · 30/03/2020 20:30

Hope he is ok.

M00NPIE · 30/03/2020 21:12

Any news ok? Hope all is ok.

Jellybean27 · 30/03/2020 21:39

Did they say what it was? @DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou And was it the same both times?

Bloody scary!

MissEliza · 30/03/2020 23:29

Hope your little one is ok Op. As others have said Covid is not the only illness around. Just because he doesn't have Covid doesn't mean he shouldn't receive medical attention. Thinking of you both x

colouringinpro · 30/03/2020 23:32

Glad you went to A&E Op, hope he's OK.

HamsterHolder · 30/03/2020 23:46

Could be dehydrated? When did he last pass water and was it dark/smelly? If it's been a while or dark/offensive dehydration could be the cause of the headache.

Also regards the eye pain is it just part of the headache or an actual aversion to bright light. If he has become newly sensitive to bright light that would obviously be quite concerning.

Once older than 6 months the degree of the temperature doesn't really matter/or correlate with a severe illness so really don't worry if it's 38 or 39, it's a typically response to infection and is actually beneficial in fighting the infection - choosing to reduce it with paracetamol can worsen the bodies response to infection which is why it's no longer advised to give in order to reduce a temperature, just to relieve pain or distress. i.e. a child with a temp of 38.2C but coping quite well with it/not in distress shouldn't be given paracetamol.

mummymayhem18 · 30/03/2020 23:53

Hope he's ok and you get seen soon. Could it be quinsy?

HamsterHolder · 30/03/2020 23:55

Ahh should have read the whole thing, I see you;ve already gone. just as a generally point to consider when choosing to goto A&E for a check up as you're not sure if serious illness or not - A&Es are currently split it two,; clean and dirty. Anyone with respiratory/temperature related illnesses is being managed through the dirty side which is basically everyone suspected or confirmed of having covid19. This is not a place that is worth sitting in for a check up, only attend if either the 111 service direct you to, or the patient is clearly in a life threatening situation for which A&E is a necessity.

Tunnocks34 · 30/03/2020 23:56

My son had this mid feb, sore throat, cough, headache and vomiting. I had it the week after along with my middle son. We were told just a virus but it was nasty.

Not as bad as the flu but definitely not a cold.

With all this COVID I have wondered if it was that but we recovered within a week and I’m not sure we were poorly enough to be honest.

ToTheWall · 31/03/2020 00:03

My son had tonsillitis last year and I phoned 111 as had similar symptoms, 111 advised ring 999 for ambulance. I drove straight to a&e. He was ok. I'd say a&e

StillMedusa · 31/03/2020 00:16

Glad you are taking him.
A+E is quiet everywhere at the moment. My DD1 is a doctor..frontline covid and says they are worrying about this.. that people are staying away when they NEED to be seen, either from fear of CV19 or because they don't want to take up doctors time...

My Mum had to go yesterday after a massive bleed (blood disorder) and she was seen within a couple of minutes as it's so quiet.

Please update when you get a chance, hope your son is ok x

Zoecarter · 31/03/2020 00:26

Hope all is ok

Doublefever · 31/03/2020 00:31
