I am absolutely astounded at the USA response to homeless people.

In this country we have tried to find them shelter but theUS rounds them up and places them on the concrete floor of a parking lot in Las Vegas.

With 1000s of hotel rooms empty.

We have problems but the lack of compassion or humanity in allegedly civilised country beggars belief.

I've seen a few documentaries about homelessness in Vegas and it is a very complex problem. The tunnel communities are especially bizarre.

I was a manager at a city centre hotel for 6 years in the late 90s early 00s. One year we had a big snow drop and everyone was snowed in/out, everything went to hell and we had 90% of our rooms vacant when a conference was cancelled at the last minute. I asked the company who were paying for the rooms and they agreed we could use them for homeless people stuck in the snow. We felt great about it. £7800 of damage was caused and I lost my job.
Charitable acts aren't always as simple as they seem.

Deal with individual transgressors, it's no reason not to allow homeless into empty hotels. Or for that matter, we should have been allowed to stay for free in state or national campgrounds that have decent facilities.
