Looking at these pictures of the new Nightingale Hospital... Just, wow. Feel quite emotional! And it's not just this - it's how they're sourcing staff, it's food packages, it's housing the homeless, it's neighbourhood groups... Just imagine if we had a society that prioritised welfare and just cracked on with it in normal circumstances!

I think that one of the ironies if our society is that we actually prohibit some of the initiatives that would help prevent people becoming vulnerable in the first place. Temporary, suitable accommodation for the homeless, etc.

Iwannabeadored20 · 30/03/2020 16:17

But it has always been possible to do these things in an emergency. The knowledge is there.

YANBU.

It's just a shame that the majority of people voted for a Tory government who care more about making the rich richer than looking after regular people.

Reginabambina · 30/03/2020 16:33

It’s not a question of putting minds to it but rather putting money into it. This is going to cost us a lot and it’s going to cost for a long time.

Iwannabeadored20 · 30/03/2020 16:42

But preventative measures in society save money in the long term they just don’t help create a high return economy.

Couldn’t we at least put more of this integrated approach into helping the vulnerable so there are so many holes for them to fall into (and be pushed) ?

Iwannabeadored20 · 30/03/2020 16:42

So there are not so many holes!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 30/03/2020 17:39

It's a matter of political will as well, OP.

Iwannabeadored20 · 30/03/2020 18:32

@Honeysucklejasmine

Yes. I agree.

Mistystar99 · 31/03/2020 21:34

Did you vote Tory OP?

VirtualHugsAllRound · 02/04/2020 09:54

Mistystar99 Did you vote Tory OP?

No, definitely not!

And I totally agree with Honeysucklejasmine thats it's a matter of political will, too.

I suppose I'm a little surprised - and surprised at my own surprise - that this sort of thing is actually possible. Like, I've theoretically believed it is, but now I'm seeing evidence.
