To ask how long realistically will a UC claim

Take?

Had no other option, it's asking for ID to be shown at a job centre (but they're not open), so does that mean nothing until the job centres open?

Thank you any insight.

They’ll arrange a telephone appointment

Rubberoftheband · 30/03/2020 14:45

Thank you, it didn't say that so that's helpful.

During your call you will get a code to set up your UC page and you can apply for a loan (advance payment) which should be in your account in 24-72 hours

Rubberoftheband · 31/03/2020 08:29

Thank you @Stressedout10

It normally takes 5 weeks from date of claim to getting your first payment. You can get an advance payment but bear in mind this is a loan that will be recovered over the course of 6 or 12 months through reductions to your UC payments.

You might also be entitled to council tax reduction, this is separate to UC and you claim it through your local authority.

DH had a call with the job centre yesterday. It is currently taking 10-12 weeks he was told.

Answer any calls you get from Unknown.

GinDrinker00 · 31/03/2020 08:48

My family member just claimed UC because of CV she’s been told anything up to 2 months. They’re slammed 100,000s are applying every single day!

Rubberoftheband · 31/03/2020 08:52

Thank you everyone

Mine took about 3 weeks to issue (before covid-19) then because it was end of the month waited another 3 weeks for first payment

starrysimon · 31/03/2020 09:46

It’s been 2 months since I started mine and still nothing. Not even a phone call or number provided to call. Good luck OP it’s a horrendous system!

Quick question
I just filled out the forms online for an application, last Tuesday but haven't had any confirmation email or contact, never had to apply before, have I done enough to register my application or do I actually need to ring up?
Thanks.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 31/03/2020 09:57

Not sure how they are handling the ID services. There are online agents such as the Post Office, but these have been failing all over the place.

All the staff seeing regular claimants have been reassigned to processing new claims.

DianaT1969 · 31/03/2020 10:05

When doing the initial online ID check on the Gov website, you have a choice of a few agencies. Try Experian before trying the others. Do it during office hours. Barclays bank and post office are not worth trying. Their systems aren't sophisticated and they need to connect with too many 3rd parties to run the check. I get the impression that Experian already have a it of data on everyone and the online process is more sophisticated.

SudokuQueen · 31/03/2020 10:39

I think for the id part they are just asking questions to confirm who you are from your application. Nothing else they can do right now.

But this should at least show the higher ups that this can be done easier without people going into the job centre and abusing the staff there. They don't deserve that.
