To Consider Doing The Ironing - Talk Me Down.

Surely there is something more useful I could be doing? I mean, tidying the linen cupboard? Rearranging the forks? Making a Christmas card list for 2037?

There must be something more rewarding than doing the sodding ironing. Am I being anarchic here?

Surely there is a cat video to watch online?

Wynston · 30/03/2020 16:14

See i dont mind ironing....obviously with a glass of wine or 4......nobody is allowed near me or the hot iron and i just stand quietly watching tv.

mogloveseggs · 30/03/2020 16:16

Hey nice I get going I don't mind it but the getting going is the issue.
Surely there's something on Netflix you need to watch before they take it off

mogloveseggs · 30/03/2020 16:17

see once
I need to find my glasses Blush

NemophilistRebel · 30/03/2020 16:18

It doesn’t have to be this way

Think of your family

rosegoldivy · 30/03/2020 16:23

If your not going anywhere, there's no need to iron... There it's justified. Now go enjoy yourself doing nothing guilt free 😂😂

Pjsandbaileys · 30/03/2020 16:31

I got everything out starting ironing and realised we can't leave the bloody house so who cares if my t-shirts a bit crinkled 😂

ECBC · 30/03/2020 16:33

I’m a strong believer in self-ironing (ie just wearing until creases drop out) but I have been known to get my straighteners out for the odd collar....

Redcrayons · 30/03/2020 16:37

I’m being furloughed from Friday. The day when I’m compelled to iron will be a sad day.

I only once a year when I’m doing uniform labels. My clothes will shrivel up if they are exposed to that heat!

TheMustressMhor · 30/03/2020 16:38

Now that is an important point.

Since we cannot go out, there is reason to do any ironing.

What is this strange ironing thing you speak of?

TheMustressMhor · 30/03/2020 16:38

No reason FFS. ^^^

I did the ironing earlier. It only took about half an hour because DH is working from home so there were no shirts to do. I do enjoy doing it though.

Blingismything · 30/03/2020 16:43

I washed all some of my summer linen clothes at the weekend however they have not yet been ironed. Saving it for another day.

1Morewineplease · 30/03/2020 16:46

Walk away from the crumpled pile, walk away... and relax.

TheMustressMhor · 30/03/2020 18:06

I have pared down the ironing pile to the bare essentials, so I only do it once a month.

It still does my head in, though.

Imo the iron can't be bleached enough to be deemed a safe pass time during these times..
Best left locked in the back of a cupboard op..

Bluesrunthegame · 30/03/2020 18:13

Step away from the iron. If you iron today, you may dust tomorrow, and then you will have to become the perfect housewife. Back away slowly, it's just not worth it. Open a book or some wine. You know you want to.

Yamihere · 30/03/2020 18:19

Doing the ironing is a really selfish activity at the moment. What if you were to accidently burn yourself, or the board collapse and chop off a finger, or you trip over the wire and fall through a window? The NHS can't take the strain of ironing related accidents right now!

Windyatthebeach · 30/03/2020 18:30

Brings to mind the missing ironing board thread...

madcatladyforever · 30/03/2020 18:35

Slatterns the lot of you Cake Wine

TheMustressMhor · 30/03/2020 18:47

Yamihere I had not considered the possible accidents which doing the ironing might cause.

Just walking to the cupboard where it is kept is fraught with danger. I could trip over the cat, for example.

Safer just to sit in front of the telly with a glass of sherry.

I've been nagged to do this task

I've have 3 large baskets of the stuff apparently. I don't mind but I know I'll have a sort through and most of it won't need an iron and the rest well I'll iron when needed. I'm not due to leave the house for 12 + weeks so it will just get creased again before I actually need it

tootiredtoconga · 30/03/2020 19:05

The ironing? Calm yourself, woman!! You're hysterical (slaps TheMustressMhor for her own good)!!

There. You're welcome.

Now pour yourself a Wine and find something really trashy to watch on Netflix before you put us all to shame.

Icare1234 · 30/03/2020 19:17

Just think of the poor person you’ll be depriving of work when MN next asks why can’t you take in a bit of ironing.
