Hi it's my sons birthday tomorrow and I want to make it special. What ideas for things to do at home/in the garden? I am struggling! I should have planned more but I'm a key worker so been working 45 hour weeks still!

Obstacle course. Let there be mayhem.
Happy birthday to your 7 year old.

Sleepover - films, pizza, popcorn, sweets, all bed down in the living room. Maybe make some tents/a den with sheets.

Traditional party - pin the tail on the donkey, pass the parcel etc. sandwiches, jelly and ice-cream.

Treasure hunt - hide clues round the house and garden and prize at the end. Could theme it if child has a particular favourite.

Pamper party - nail varnish, hair glitter, maybe some mocktails,

Tea party - everyone puts their Sunday best on, bunting and tablecloth, little sandwiches with tea and scones and cakes etc.

Disco - lights, music, crisps and fizzy pop. Maybe some glow sticks if you can get hold of them.

Sports day - egg and spoon, sack race, beat the goalie etc. Medals for everyone.

Zoom with grand parents or friends?

It was my DD's birthday yesterday so obviously the planned 'proper' party didn't go ahead. We facetimed and zoomed family in the morning and afternoon for virtual parties and did charades (I tried to think of other games but couldn't at short notice - it worked brilliantly though). Her cousins even had balloons and party at their end so I should've done that. I also thought with hindsight that I could have asked her friends' parents to join a zoom party and we could have done musical statues and musical bumps or just disco dancing together.

We did sing happy birthday and I made a big cake, candles and a sparkler on top and all the family sang along.

The rest of the time was opening and playing with presents and then we watched a film last night DD's choice). Good luck!

I should say that when DD went to bed, she said it was her best birthday ever. I asked her why and it was the virtual parties that she absolutely loved :)
