Personally I wouldn't cancel.

I think things will be back to normal (as normal as it can be!) by August.

(I bloody hope so!)

Qgardens · 30/03/2020 00:02

Wait and see if they cancel it because they might refund then.

BudgieHammockBananaSmuggler · 30/03/2020 00:02

I imagine it will be cancelled for you if we are still coronafucked

Confuddledtown · 30/03/2020 01:00

Sorry I honestly dont think you'll going, but if you do nothing for the time being, when inevitably they cancel, you'll get your money back.

Isla727 · 30/03/2020 01:04

I think it will be cancelled for you.

LorenzoStDubois · 30/03/2020 01:09

Nope.
Spain is in the shit.
You won't be going.
They will cancel on you.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 30/03/2020 01:11

If you cancel now you won’t get a refund of any money paid. If you wait and it’s cancelled for you you’ll get your money back

avamiah · 30/03/2020 01:15

I hope you get to go I really do .
I mean it’s 4 months .
I just really hope that we get back to some normality in the next 3 weeks as in my opinion it could get nasty here in London .
I mean if everything stays closed then nobody will have a job, could lose their home and go crazy not being able to see loved ones .
It’s like your dying slowly anyway and this could cause riots and looters.
We are in a very dangerous situation .

I’m in a dilemma because so far I have only paid the deposit. Balance is not due until mid July. But with husband only receiving 80% now, getting it paid is possible but will be hard . I’m worried I’ll pay and then if it’s cancelled you only get a credit note for another holiday ! What if the company go bust ? I won’t get anything back

We were supposed to be having holiday of a lifetime in July to Asia Pac region. I was due to pay it all off (had only paid deposit) in early April. We asked the holiday Company in early March if they can hold our deposit until next year & cancel this years plans. They agreed 😊

I don’t think anyone will be travelling for 6 months at the earliest.

xandersmom2 · 30/03/2020 07:54

IMHO (and though it is humble, I do work in a field which gives me professional insight into what is going on behind the scenes) it is highly unlikely you will be able to go. So, you could wait until the last possible moment (ie right before the balance is due) and then cancel, in the hope that it will be cancelled for you before then - in which case you should hopefully get a refund.

Or, depending on the amount of deposit you have paid and whether you can afford to let it go, you could just cancel now and remove this additional angst from your life.

I was in the same situation as you with a hol booked mid August, deposit paid, hubby just been put on basic hours (cos his firm refuses to furlough anyone and has just given everyone 1 day a week of work, joy) and got tired of stressing over it so just cancelled and kissed the deposit goodbye. Which, trust me, we really couldn't afford to do at all - but it just wasn't going to actually happen and so it's something less for me to stress over now.

pingbloodyping · 30/03/2020 07:58

You aren’t going! Sorry, but the chances that things will be so sorted by August that you can go on holiday are NIL.
But - I wouldn’t cancel unless the holiday company or whoever you booked with have said you can without penalty.
Wait until they cancel and you’ll get a full refund.

pingbloodyping · 30/03/2020 07:59

If the holiday company go bust your travel insurance or ATOL or who we the holiday company are with will refund you.
Your travel insurance is your best bet.

CormoranStrike · 30/03/2020 08:02

There isn’t a chance we will be travelling safely to places like Spain and Italy this summer in my opinion

I’ve even got UK holidays in August and strongly suspect both will be cancelled.

Neverender · 30/03/2020 08:04

That bloke on this morning said the other day to pay the balance and then if they cancel on you, you get a full refund. If you don't, you could lose what you have paid. He said he knew it sounded counterintuitive but it was the best way.

middleager · 30/03/2020 08:06

Spain is in dire straits.

We will be by then too. This is not going to be done by the summer at all.

I think it will be cancelled, so wait.

Ethelfleda · 30/03/2020 08:16

Wait and see what happens OP and let them cancel if for you if needs be so at least you’ll get a refund

YeahWhatevver · 30/03/2020 08:18

If you cancel I'm not sure you'd get a refund.

Let them cancel it

Scarlettpixie · 30/03/2020 13:12

I have a holiday booked to the US in august. I have paid over half the cost as I am paying by installments but if I cancel more than I think 70 days before I only loose the deposit £400 and the rest will be refunded. I am going to make a judgement at the end.of may (before the deadline) and will probably cancel. We are booked with TUI. I noticed they are now allowing bookings ip to the end of June to be amended. Ideally before I have to decide, this date will be moved along and cover our dates. If they do that, we will rebook for next year unless cost is prohibitive.
