AIBU to not know which laptop desk solution to use

I'm wfh in the spare box room. There is a bed, chair, bookshelf and chest of drawers but nothing to put my laptop on that I can put my legs underneath.

Can you think of any solutions for my posture?

DH has taken over the dining room with 2 monitors and DD has a desk in her room she uses for lots of Y6 work set.

Is there room for a fold up table? I bought one to use in our living room- I can fold it up and stick it under the sofa when not needed. Could you do that in your living room?

If you can I would get something like this

Would make it a lot more comfortable & it can be tidied away at the end of the day.

I got something of a similar idea and its so much for comfortable than not being able to sit correctly.

I've been using my ironing board, and alternating between standing and sitting by adjusting the height (using a bean bag when sitting, borrowed from my oldest DS). Saved my back last week.

You could use a laptop tray - it has a cushion underneath to stabilise it so you have it on your lap.

DH needs to move one of his monitors out of the way so you can set up your laptop.

Ironing board ! One person did this

Pull out a drawer. Place a sheet of wood on top of it. Put chair underneath.

Otherwise, try and reshuffle the house and get a desk if you can.

PickAChew · 29/03/2020 22:53

That's all very well @safariboot but my dh uses 2 monitors and really does use both at once. Usually coding and testing on one while reading reference material and communicating with colleagues via the other.

With a laptop, I'd take charge of the sofa. It does what it says on the tin.

Ironing board is a great suggestion!

I bought a folding desk on eBay, similar to this one. It gives me the flex to know I can put it away.

It’s really not fair that your husband has commandeered the dining table, unless he needs both screens?

Do you have some wall space ?
If you do get yourself a piece of wood big enough for a desk , attach it to a baton on the the wall using large hinges the type that are used for big wooded gates , cut some 2x3 lengths of wood to the height of your desk attach them with smaller hinges to make the legs for your desk. and then a slide bolt to the wall above your desk. you can then drop the desk down to use and fold it back up and bolt in place when you dont need it .

I'm using my dressing table with the keyboard resting on an open drawer if that's something you could try?

I do like the idea of using the ironing board as a standing desk thogh!

Someone at work ordered a 'bed desk' from Amazon. Id say move the chest of drawers somewhere else in the house and get a small table.
