I’m staying at my sisters flat right now as she has to self isolate and lives alone. She has a communal garden and I went in to the garden to have a cigarette on Friday and Saturday night. Put fag butts in an ashtray and left it outside. When someone came out when I was out for a cigarette I immediately put it out as understand that it would be inconsiderate to their use of the garden.

However she just shouted at me to clean that disgusting mess up, about the small ashtray with fag butts in in the garden. I wouldn’t mind if she asked me nicely and would do it no questions asked. However, I really resent being barked at. AIBU or not?

You've had your gob wrapped round those fag butts, and left them, and your ashtray, in a communal area.

Take your potentially germ infested crap in with you and dispose of it properly.

Are you even allowed to be smoking in the communal garden? When I’ve lived in flats, smoking was banned in all communaL spaces.

You can’t go in a communal area if you are self isolating with your sister. If she is, you should be.

Leaving an ashtray of butts in communal space is pretty rank. Just take it back inside with you.

YABU. Don't leave your stinking fag ends lying around in a communal space. It's unpleasant and unhygienic. They can't clear them up without touching where you've put your hands and mouth.

Just chuck them in the bin when you're finished. It's not hard.

Why do smokers think they are exempt from basic manners? Put your butts in the bin.

My dad used to have a little lidded tin he used as an ashtray, so others didn’t have to deal with the smell and the fag ends. It’s not even your garden, tidy up after yourself.
