SE Essential Work/Lockdown

My husbands line of work is classed as essential however he’s not front line or what would be essential. He’s a gas engineer on a building site.
We would rather he was at home so we could have a full lock down, we have small children so we have been doing everything that the government have advised but the gov.uk website says he should still work.
I think we will have to call HMRC for clarity but has anyone else found out if the SE can still be paid if they opt to not work or would this be void?
We want to protect our family to the best of our ability but unfortunately we cannot be in a position where we cannot pay our bills.

Sorry,
By paid I mean via the SE income support.

Is the site likely to close?

@PersonaNonGarter it doesn’t look likely so far. there’s lots of people on the site of all different trades.
