to feel for the USA under Trump at the moment

I know that there are divisions here. Johnson could have done better. But our briefings aren't political and generally everyone is working together.

Anyone who is following Trump and the USA at the moment will know that division is rife in the USA. Trump is still talking about fake news and is using his briefings as a rally.

I just feel for people in the USA at the moment having to deal with all this as well as the virus.

Good god, his press briefings are terrible. People are dying, we're all on lockdown and he's on about his ratings? The man is crazy!

I live in Pennsylvania and my son did not have insurance for the month of January. He went to a Med Express (urgent care) and was seen with no problems. I don't know if that is true in all states but around here they will not turn you away.

user1471439310 · 30/03/2020 06:17

I agree Trump is not right, I can't image Clinton being any better. Biden seems to have just disappeared and from one interview he did, he seemed confused.

You do know what insurance companies do, don't you?

barkingfly · 30/03/2020 07:49

HelloToMyKitty, the Urgent Care is not required to provide care, but an Emergency room/department is. The city he lived in, Lancaster, is a part of Los Angeles that is fairly poor and does not have a lot of medical resources.

I'm fine with state abbreviations, but please stop it with the London-England and the Paris-France. These are the eponimous definitives and they require no qualification.

In other news, Trumpy says the doctors are hoarding the PPE and possibly selling it on the black market 'out the back door.'

chomalungma · 30/03/2020 10:21

Don't be mean and nasty to Trump
You have to be nice to him
Especially if you are a woman
And if you are a person of colour

Poor USA. You don't deserve that fool and you don't deserve what's coming. But don't worry, whatever it is, it won't be the fault of the pompous oaf. So that'll be OK.

HoldMyLobster · 30/03/2020 14:02

But they might well require qualification if you're American - to a Mainer, Paris is the place you go through just after Oxford, Norway and South Paris when you're heading to the ski resorts.

midwesteaster · 30/03/2020 14:26

I took my dd to an urgent care center and they said our insurance wasn't valid for it and wouldn't see her ( actually it was it turned out) but we went to another round the corner.
So in some states urgent centers don't see uninsured people.
A&E departments in hospitals will see people I think.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 30/03/2020 14:31

No. There is only one Paris, founded by the Parisi on the Île de la Cité. Ditto Londinium founded by the Romans on the dark river Tamesis.

Boston (St Botolph's Town) is debatable.

user1471439310 · 30/03/2020 14:54

We paid for his visit but he wasn't turned away.

HoldMyLobster · 30/03/2020 14:56

I hadn't heard of the phrase eponymous definitions till this thread.

I definitely hadn't heard of eponimous definitives Grin

MissConductUS · 30/03/2020 15:55

They're required by law to treat people regardless of insurance status.

MockersxxxxxxxSocialDistancing · 30/03/2020 16:12

If a Bostonian Yellowbelly says he's going to visit his auntie in the nearby village of New York, he does not need to add a Lincs to that because it's obvious which one he's talking about. He does not need to insult the Big Apple by suggesting it is in any way on a par with a one-horse Fenland hamlet.

KickAssAngel · 30/03/2020 16:43

Urgent care and ER are not the same thing - when I went to urgent care they just didn't have the equipment needed to care for me, so I got referred on to ER. So they don't have the same obligation to see people that ER places do.

I often drive to Toronto to fly home to the UK. On the way I pass through/past London, Kent, Stratford, etc etc. Then I land in the UK and once again go to London & Kent. It's quite strange going to London twice in one day, in different continents.

Doubletrouble99 · 30/03/2020 16:54

Yes Kickassangel I know what you mean, my niece went to Uni in London Ont. They come from Sarnia so you must be going home from around there to pass London Ont.

KickAssAngel · 30/03/2020 18:18

I live in MI, the other side of Detroit. We either go through Detroit or via Sarnia to get to YYZ. Flights can be around 1/3 of the price compared to Detroit.

@BritWifeinUSA but the different rule-making powers in the various states and consequent inconsistency has also been a major failing of the US’s in this crisis.
