To go out today?

I haven't been to Asda in two weeks and I've literally made everything last.
Now we are running very low (bread, milk, veg, meat) etc
We have a few tins.
I have reserved a slot with Asda for next Wednesday and placed a order but I'm feeling guilty and think someone more deserving could use that.
Do I cancel that and just go myself today?
I'm 34,no health conditions,no symptoms of corona (touch wood) feel healthy.
I would wear gloves,I've got a mask.
I would pay with my card and take my own bags.
It's a less than 10 min walk and I would keep my distance.
My boyfriend says no and I should just wait for delivery
What would you do?

Personally I would go out today and just get a couple of bits safely and keep the delivery slot for your main shop but I think that would make me selfish to other people on here!

bananallamas · 28/03/2020 11:51

Same as pp. keep your delivery slot with your big shop and pop out today quickly just to get a few bits to tide you over. In and out as quickly as possible

bananallamas · 28/03/2020 11:51

There is also no guarantee that someone more deserving will get your online slot!

longwayoff · 28/03/2020 11:53

Don't give up to the slot you may not get another for weeks

FaFoutis · 28/03/2020 11:55

You are allowed to go to the shops. If you go out you will find that nobody in real life is as ridiculous as many posters on MN these days.

PinkiOcelot · 28/03/2020 11:56

Same as PP. Go get a few essentials today and keep your slot for Wednesday.

Marieo · 28/03/2020 11:56

Anyone could get your slot, but if you feel up to going and have zero symptoms etc and manage to get what you need then maybe cancel it. When I've been going out I've been coming in, leaving the bags outside, washing my hands, and then cleaning down the packaging as I bring it inside. Then a shower and fresh set of clothes. Might be too much but meh, makes me feel better about going out anyway!

DariaMorgendorffer · 28/03/2020 11:58

I would pop out today briefly for essentials, and I would also keep the slot for bulkier long-life items. It's not panic buying and stockpiling. You are allowed shop, and you deserve that slot. It will stop you going to the shops twice this week, and it may be the only one you get for a while.

EyeShipMiceElf · 28/03/2020 12:00

I’ve been out early today for milk, bread, fruit, cereal. My next online slot I could get is for a month’s time.
Most people are courteous and keeping their distance, always the few who don’t give a fuck and carry on like any other day but just do your best to avoid them.

ShellsAndSunrises · 28/03/2020 12:03

I’d have gone yesterday, today it seems manic and our local supermarkets have extended their household and numbers limits all day. But if you need things; you can go get them! Take all the precautions you can.

When I've clicked on now the next slot wouldn't be till the end of April nearly.
I think I'm gonna do that, pop out for a few bits
Then main shop on Wednesday delivered.
This will be the first time I've ever used the delivery service for shopping and after reading things on Twitter etc was starting to feel guilty for using it.

I’m pondering Tesco or Asda at the moment. I actually don’t need to go but my elderly Dad who has dementia and is bloody minded wants to go out and get Activia yoghurts Hmm. It’s as much as I can do to keep him indoors with my Mum at the moment so I may go just to get his yoghurts and calm him down.

They live close by and I am helping them with shopping etc. It’s okay to go out to support a vulnerable person but just not sure that “yoghurts” are an essential. On the other hand if it keeps him indoors then that’s a good thing.

I went on to check my order for next week
And nearly everything is out of stock now on my order
Chicken
Bacon
Tuna
Beans
Lemonade
Carrots
Pork steaks
Argh
Will I get substitutes?
