To cancel the direct debit

My DP is a self employed - no work.
My job is low pay and I've just been furloughed.

My DD travels to school by bus, the direct debit is £58 a month.

I've cancelled it. It's payable to the local council.

I can't afford to pay for a service I'm no longer receiving. It's a no brainer, right?

Of course. Needs must. A lot of people are now cancelling all sorts of direct debits.

Good luck.

Not sure if this applies with the bus travel but make sure you actually cancel the service not just the direct debit or you may still owe the money.

Not unreasonable, but do make sure you email them clearly explaining why as councils aren't generally known for goodwill or common sense.

You need look at the terms of service. How you pay is nothing to do with the actual service provider's terms around ceasing service.

Put it this way... If I cancel the direct debit to my council tax without actually contacting the council about moving out or whatever... You'd still expect them to chase for payment.

By all means cancel the DD authority on your bank account but you can't just cancel the payment setup and not expect to be held liable for payment in future. If that's what you're intending to do?

Our school automatically cancelled ours .But i have been through culling all ours that i now deem none essential like white goods insurance, contact lenses scheme
Left pet insurance going but that it .Figured if white goods were go wrong i wouldn't want anyone coming in house at moment anyway and highly likely they wouldn't want to 🤷‍♀️.

I cancelled some.

The bus service must have been cancelled as it was a specific school bus. But yes, i will email them.
