Hello,
I am part of the DBS update service and i joined it in April 2018.
It is due to be renewed April 26th 2018.
I cant remember whether i applied to the automatic renewal (in which it automatically takes £13 out every year to update the DBS) or not.
I cant remember doing all this last year so i must be part of the automatic renewal but i just cant remember!

Anyway, i logged in today to see if i could pay the £13 as online it says "if you are not part of the automatic renewal and want to update your DBS, login to your account and update it there. This has to be done within the 30 days before your subscription ends".

Logged in today and the option to update is not there! Just an option to "add or remove certificate",
I can see my current certificate,
But all it says is something along the lines of:
"My certificate number - joined April 2018. Expiry date: 26th April 2020"
No option to update!
Does this.mean im part of the automatic update??
I'll call tomorrow but feeling anxious

DBS?

I seem to remember you need to subscribe before your certificate is 3 months old. I was caught in the same trap and had to re-apply.

I'm sorry, it's actually only 30 days.

DBS = Disclosure and Barring Service

(safer recruitment checks, criminal record checks etc)
it is used in England, Wales , channel islands, Isle of Man.

Can you not check your email to see if you subscribed to the update service, or even check your back statements to see if it was taken out last year?

caketiger · 28/03/2020 01:55

It's 30 days from the date of issue. Search your email for dbs updater.

If I have understood this correctly you are saying you already registered for the update service within the 30 days of receiving your last certificate? But you now want to ensure that you paid the fee last year to remain registered on the service and to make your payment to ensure this continues for another year?

You will definitely have received an email from them to advise of the upcoming £13 renewal fee if setup for automatic renewal (I think auto renew is standard anyway). Given the expiry date on your account you’re still registered at the moment. If there is no option to renew I believe that indicates it is auto renew but I’m not 100% sure of that - can you check all through again as I know this information is contained within your account section. If you’ve changed your bank details at all since last year you need to amend them ASAP.

Just a tip - There’s an easy way to check if you’re registered - run a check on yourself using the online check on yourself! It will tell you if you’re still registered.

Thanks everyone! I have sorted it,
I think i must have been trying too early yesterday as the "renew your subscription" button came up today, i have paid and it is now valid until April 2021 :)
