To suggest it's physical distancing not social distancing

At this time we need to distance ourselves physically but socially we need to stay close. FaceTime, Zoom, emails, snail mail, telephone, things like Mumsnet etc
Just a thought.

I couldn’t agree more. Have downloaded Zoom and after a week of feeling shit and missing family/ friends have had 3 evenings in a row of chatting, laughing, drinking wine ‘together’, exercising together in the day etc. It has done me the world of good! Don’t know why I didn’t think of it sooner! Even my Nan is now on FaceTime. My kids ‘see’ their friends every day and we are all a lot happier because of it. Physical distancing fine but we Are not ‘social’ distancing any more! Thank for foe technology!

"Spatial distancing" is my preferred term. Or "splendid isolation".

LiquoricePickle · 28/03/2020 06:48

I like to say "spatial distancing"

Ethelfleda · 28/03/2020 06:52

What is zoom?
I agree OP. I’ve been calling people and FaceTime people more than usual.
Even my colleagues - we are all checking on each other daily.

TheDogsMother · 28/03/2020 06:55

Zoom has been our saviour. Virtual drinks with friends has been such a laugh and a great way to keep in touch.

Agree, I saw this on Twitter a few days ago and thought it was a better description.

For the person who asked what Zoom is, it's a videoconferencing website/app. bluejeans is another. Like Skype.

Oilyoilyoilgob · 28/03/2020 07:37

Can I ask zoom users are there any benefits over Skype? Thanks in advance 😊

Batqueen · 28/03/2020 08:28

It’s all about the House Party app. Better than Skype, zoom, facetime, webex and anything else!
