That is shocking. We are being so careful with any fresh food, checking the dates so that it does not go to waste. It is not hard. Some people are so selfish, to buy more than they need and then dump it.

PatchworkElmer · 27/03/2020 18:23

Why are those bananas in the bin? They look only just ripe!

Talulahbeige · 27/03/2020 18:24

I was in Morrison’s last Friday and a woman stood at the checkout saying “half of this will get thrown in the bin”

People can’t face doing without whatever they may fancy. Normally I’d agree with them, if you can afford it and it’s available then why not.
But in the current day it is not acceptable under any circumstance.

Ponoka7 · 27/03/2020 18:24

I was on the bus at the start of this week and a man was on the phone, saying that he'd grabbed what he could, but will probably bin it at the end of the week.

Just disgusting behaviour.

LGY1 · 27/03/2020 18:30

Have people not heard of freezing things?!

CalleighDoodle · 27/03/2020 18:32

My dh has commented today that we got it right, for once, our cupboards have plenty of food in still, but our fridge is bare. We have bought the right amount of perishables.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 27/03/2020 18:51

It’s sickening it really is. Pure greed.

nobodyimportant · 27/03/2020 18:55

That is disgusting!

maggiecate · 27/03/2020 18:57

The amount of stuff that’s going to get wasted is heartbreaking - I hope that in six months time people will go through their cupboards and donate the canned and packet stuff they panic bought that they’re never going to eat to food banks before it goes out of date as well.

feelingverylazytoday · 27/03/2020 18:57

Not surprised. Food waste is already a massive problem in the UK (and other countries too). It was bound to get worse over the last few weeks.

CodenameVillanelle · 27/03/2020 19:00

That really is awful

Purpleclownsuit · 27/03/2020 19:01

No close up of dates? Could just be filthy bastards like me who find stuff at the back of the fridge months out of date 😂

sHREDDIES19 · 27/03/2020 19:01

This whole situation will hopefully have a positive impact on how we shop in the future because now we are forced to only shop as infrequently as possible; as such we are more aware of what we have in the cupboards and freezer and making sure we use it up. Usually as a family we do loads of small shops but this is the way forward for us as it saves waste when you plan things and petrol, bonus!

Olawisk · 27/03/2020 19:02

Lots of that food could of been frozen though ... and those bananas weren’t even ripe!

adaline · 27/03/2020 19:03

People have been overbuying perishable things.

Purpleclownsuit · 27/03/2020 19:11

He could have bought the shopping himself and whacked it in a random bin for all we know 😂

SchadenfreudePersonified · 27/03/2020 19:11

Same here - but I still eat it unless has

a) turned blue

b) grown fur

Stuff lasts a lot longer than you think.

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 19:12

I've got a bug and can't eat, well I could but it wouldn't stay down for long so I might waste some this week. I've got fresh meat for every day, sorted it all out so I use the short life stuff first but the best laid plans and all that. I did think of making a curry with some chicken and freezing it but I might poison everyone. To be fair I haven't wasted as much as a slice of bread so far but that chicken is bugging me.

dingit · 27/03/2020 19:12

My dc have decided that it's good to leave fruit in the bowl as it becomes apple crumble and banana cake Grin

I hope people throwing away food read this thread and go find ways to use that food so they're not throwing money away. Make vegetable soup, make vegetable stock, make banana bread. Milk starting to get sour can be made into cheese. I make mine into paneer! Hardening bread can be made into bread pudding or croutons (possibly even for that vegetable soup!). Everything can be used.

1forsorrow · 27/03/2020 19:13

If I'm feeling OK tomorrow I will cook it and freeze it.

FreakStar · 27/03/2020 19:15

I suspect this is fake.

NoProblem123 · 27/03/2020 19:16

Those bananas have got another week in them at least Angry

WatchingFromTheWings · 27/03/2020 19:16

I was reading the comments below the photos and saw this:

So I wasn't talking 'rubbish' the other day?
WatchingFromTheWings · 27/03/2020 19:18

There's (I think) chicken there dated 1st March so bought before the panic buying. Doesn't explain the bananas though.
