Tesco coronavirus delivery!

pickles444 · 27/03/2020 16:32

I know I should be grateful that I had a Tesco delivery (my first ever) but was horrified when the driver arrived with his crates and then proceeded to handle every item without gloves. I realise these things have been 'picked by other hands' but why can't they use bags just during the pandemic. AIBU to worry that every single item he touched could be comtaminated?

Was there a box to choose bags or no bags when you ordered.

RandomWok · 27/03/2020 16:35

You should really be washing everything from the supermarket. Loads of people would have touched each of your items.

OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 16:35

You would need to wipe it all down or wash it anyway because you don't know who else has touched it so does it make any difference to you?

For his own safety though, he should be wearing gloves.

AlpineSnow · 27/03/2020 16:35

Why did he handle every item? I left my delivery man outside, took the crates indoors one by one and unpacked them onto the table myself then gave them back and washed my hands

PineappleTart · 27/03/2020 16:37

I have bags for life ready when I get deliveries and empty the crates into them.

VivaLeBeaver · 27/03/2020 16:38

They’re going to. I’m sure I had an email about this today.

Why didn’t you empty the crates yourself? I always do even before all this.

RoyalBankOfFuckThis · 27/03/2020 16:38

My tesco delivery cmae in bags today!

They stopped for environmental reasons but must have restarted for hygiene.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 27/03/2020 16:39

I request no bags, mine came in bags today which I took from the crates myself, he seemed to know what he was doing kept distance well and it was very easy

Hannsmum · 27/03/2020 16:39

Suprised about that.

Got an email from Tesco this morning that they are going to start bagging items to minimise touching and drivers being Infront of the house for too long.😏

Probably they forgot

Wash everything down or wipes

RoyalBankOfFuckThis · 27/03/2020 16:39

I previously got my driver to put the crates on the floor then I pack everything I to bags for life.

He doesn't touch my stuff at all

DaffodilSunshine · 27/03/2020 16:40

Mine came all bagged up. He put the crates at the door whilst I stood back and then he stood back whilst I took the bags out

AmelieTaylor · 27/03/2020 16:41

They have now moved to bagged deliveries.

They have also limited it to 80 items per order 🙄misguided. People sharing orders & delivering to the isolated are struggling already.

It matters not one bit to the consumer whether he’s wearing gloves or not!!! The virus can live on surfaces & fabrics. So can just as easily contaminate your goid with gloves or bare hands

It’s already been handled by many people befire it gets to him.

Many if us are already using bleach/dettol/Milton on anything delivered to the house.

MadisonAvenue · 27/03/2020 16:41

Mine came in bags on Wednesday.

pickles444 · 27/03/2020 16:45

Hi,
No box to choose bags.

I had a Tesco delivery yesterday and he brought it in bags, although I specify no bags. I guess it's quicker this way.

SimonJT · 27/03/2020 16:47

Gloves aren’t some sort of magic antiviral forcefield

MrsBungle · 27/03/2020 16:47

I had a tesco delivery last night and he left the crates at my door step and all the items were in bags. The delivery driver told me that Tesco are bagging items now.

FourDecades · 27/03/2020 16:48

I have bagless delivery. Mine came bagged and the driver left them at the door for me to take in

ACertainSupermarket · 27/03/2020 16:48

I think this IS fair. There are many people now working from home who could get realistically to a shop. Massive orders fill up the van and limit how many deliveries can be made on that run. They could also strip the shop shelves more quickly. There are many many elderly and vulnerable who need to stay in and are not because they cannot get a slot. The special hour today was heaving with elderly, more busy than the rest of the day!
Honestly, I do appreciate that people could be ordering supplies for others but even so, 80 items should give you a fair few meals if people are genuinely buying essentials.

KittenVsBox · 27/03/2020 16:55

Ours today was all in bags. I had mentioned in the delivery instructions we were in isolation. Dont know if that affects anything.

I didnt even try to order pasta or toilet roll, but everything arrived or had a sensible substitution. THANK YOU TESCO. Nearly 2 weeks since I last put foot in the supermarket. The fridge was rather empty (tho we still had dried and tinned stuff).

I8toys · 27/03/2020 16:56

Mine came bagged and the driver was wearing gloves. Even though I have bagless delivery my store said they are putting them in bags for convenience. He then dropped all the bags off stood back and I opened the door.

MintyMabel · 27/03/2020 17:02

Exactly. Even if he wore gloves, you wouldn’t know if he changed gloves since the last customer. Or if he had touched his face with the gloves on. Maybe he has a latex allergy and there were no suitable gloves available.

Outtedagain · 27/03/2020 17:04

Do people wash everything ??

niffynoonoo · 27/03/2020 17:05

last week (last delivery) the driver expected me to sign for it!!

purpleboy · 27/03/2020 17:09

Ours last night called ahead to ask us not to open the door. He put all the bags on the doorstop, walked back asked us to check subs, then we had to close the door while he looked for a sub I didn't want.
