Tesco coronavirus delivery!

I know I should be grateful that I had a Tesco delivery (my first ever) but was horrified when the driver arrived with his crates and then proceeded to handle every item without gloves. I realise these things have been 'picked by other hands' but why can't they use bags just during the pandemic. AIBU to worry that every single item he touched could be comtaminated?

Tesco coronavirus delivery!

Is that what they’re calling their deliveries now?

Cohle · 27/03/2020 19:32

My tesco delivery came in bags.

But to be honest I think it's a good think to be alert to the reality that your groceries will have been handled, and possibly sneezed over, by many people.

missnevermind · 27/03/2020 19:40

The gloves are for his own protection not yours.
Our Tesco delivery came yesterday. Not too bad some subs some not avaliable still no loo roll. Big delivery but less than 80 items. Bags in crates stacked at front door driver wearing mask and gloves. Didn't knock until everything was unloaded.
Lft the crates but collected the empty ones from last week's delivery. But this is normal for us.
Once he was, gone we lifted the bags into the hall and stacked the crates outside for collection.

If you have symptoms or on the 14 day isolation period you have to tell them and they will bag it up for you in the van. My delivery driver asks but I know it takes them so much longer to do that so I just unpack the crates straight into my bags as fast as possible and don’t sign for the delivery (they can sign for you).

SouthWestmom · 27/03/2020 19:44

I just cant cope with the washing if groceries. I think that's my mental health tipping point. We all must have one.

Lovemusic33 · 27/03/2020 19:46

I don’t wash anything, most things will be put away into cupboards and the fridge and not touched for 24 hours so chances are any traces of the virus would be gone by then. Can’t be doing with washing things other than my hands.

LastTrainEast · 27/03/2020 19:48

Given what I've been hearing about Sainsbury and Ocado I think Tesco are doing pretty well. Today's delivery had nearly everything (all the important stuff) even milk.
It was bagged which makes it much faster - which is reason enough on it's own to do that for now.

The worry now is will I ever see a slot again.

Lovemusic33, that's what I thought. Hours in the van before it was delivered to me and in some cases days before it gets opened and eaten.

SnoozyLou · 27/03/2020 19:50

Our Tesco delivery came loose without bags this morning. I was really impressed on the whole. Came on time and had almost everything - even milk!!!

Me too.

Aesopfable · 27/03/2020 19:56

even milk!

Milk is one thing I have not had any trouble getting at any point. I did avoid the large supermarkets during the worst of the panic but only once have I even had to buy a different size to my usual.

Not seen long life for a while though.

Lovemusic33 · 27/03/2020 20:04

It’s mostly packed the night before if you have a morning delivery so by the time it reaches you it’s been 12 hours since it’s been handled, by the time you eat most of it it will be past the 24 hours so no need to wash it all.

Though I’m saying this as someone who has possibly had the virus (on day 5) and I haven’t been brilliant with hygiene other then the occasional hand wash.

You can become obsessed with everything, cleaning your post because the post man has touched it, washing all your food incase someone has sneezed on something. I would rather have skin left on my hands rather than wash them every time I touch something.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 27/03/2020 20:13

I'm not washing groceries either... this is the closest I've come to a mental breakdown in my life and I feel like washing my packet of weetabix would tip me over that edge. I just dont have the mental space for that right now.

Leontine · 27/03/2020 20:29

I have no option to wash groceries as it’d mean I’d run out of cleaning products. I only currently have about 3 quarters of a bottle of bleach and about 5 wipes and have had a lot of difficulty getting more.

whattodo2019 · 27/03/2020 20:32

I had a fruit and veg delivery from a local supplier today. I was impressed he was wearing
Gloves and a mask.
I emptied the cardboard crates and then washed all the fruit and veg in v dilute Milton

SouthWestmom · 27/03/2020 20:34

So glad I'm not the only one. I'm ok with the distancing in shops and not seeing my family but I just can't wash packets of stuff or parcels etc.

ACertainSupermarket · 28/03/2020 13:07

@Leontine did u watch the video someone posted? Really helpful. Set up a 'clean' and 'dirty' zone on worktops or table. Soapy water fine for jars, tetra packs, fruit etc. Take everything you can out of its outer wrapper e.g. Cereal. . Or use one cloth with dilute bleach (think its 1:5 so won't use much) - don't need wipes!

whattodo2019 · 03/04/2020 08:37

Deliver people wearing gloves is irrelevant. Pop your own rubber gloves on. Bring the bags into your home.
Put the bags in one place.
Full the sink with water and a cap of Milton then wash/ dip everything through the sink
Dry and put away
Put bags in bin and wash down your surfaces.
