Turn it off and sit it in the sunshine for a week

I got my kindle wet once (was in my gym bag and a bottle of water leaked). I contacted Amazon and they actually sent me a replacement! I was honest about it getting wet but apparently the screen going funny was a known problem and they kindly (and generously) took the view that it may not have been water damage. I was very impressed with their customer service.

Is it the basic model or the Paperwhite? If the latter, these have been waterproof for a while so you should be okay. Otherwise as AndNone says, Amazon customer service may well replace it.

Amazon nearly always replace their own products free of charge.

Would you have any of those little silica bags that you get in things like shoeboxes, tubs of vitamins etc?

If it was bought new at Xmas, it may be waterproof depending on the model.

Phone Amazon!
I managed to break the screen of my new kindle, phoned them up at 5pm to ask how I can get if repaired and how much it would cost and he told me to reset it and remove my info and that a new one would be at my local post office the next day. I was to put my old kindle in the packaging and send it back (keeping any accessories, chargers and cables) and that was it.

It was delivered by 9am the next morning.

No charge.

are you sure it is actually (clean pure) water?

this is important.
