Would I be a CF'er?

My ex has never paid child maintenance. After we split up, he went self employed and claimed he wasn't earning anything so CMS gave up chasing him.

He returned to employment but I didn't bother getting CMS involved as I was managing ok.

I've now lost my salary due to corona virus and will have to claim universal credit as a single parent. Him and his new partner are both key workers and I assume will be getting full pay.

Would I be a CF'er if I asked CMS to start the claim again to help me out until I can get back to work?

Yanbu. What kind of a man refuses to support his child? A pathetic, selfish little pig.

Your work is irrelevant to the money he owes his child so contact CMS immediately and don’t change anything when you’re back earning. It’s for your child. He’s completely unreasonable to not be paying it.

His partner’s income isn’t relevant either but his most definitely is.

Do it!

I never understand why some women let their ex off the hook. This money is for his child! A child that he helped make and should must take responsibility for. The only person who loses in the scenario of letting ex off is your child.

That's come out harsher than I intended. I had a shit of a dad who fiddled figures and never paid any maintenance, so I know how hard it can be. But you really must claim.

zombieapocalypseisnigh · 27/03/2020 11:10

Please do.

He should be supporting his child.

Yes. That would be unreasonable.

What you should go is start the claim again until the usual age at which child maintenance ceases. Your child is entitled to this money. Don't just do it until you can get back to work. Make your ex take his financial responsibility to your child/children seriously.
