I didn't clap

I had no idea about it! Heard the noisecat 8pm looked out the window and saw people outside clapping but couldn't see why. I'm not on social media and I didn't hear about it. Saw on the news later but I missed it. I do give a care about the NHS but now all my neighbors will think I'm terrible and don't care!

I didn't because I'm a nurse and my hospital has never been so quiet. My colleagues were cleaning windows yesterday as they were so bored. So we are all feeling a bit of a fraud at the moment. Though how on earth we will catch up the backlog of cancelled surgery is anyone's guess. We usually have 25-30 admissions a week. Now down to 0.

bloomingwonderful · 27/03/2020 12:08

@Toddlerteaplease Don't worry. I was in A&E yesterday getting my daughters head glued. We were greeted by three lovely Doctors offering to do it because they were so quiet.
I was so so grateful because there was no wait for my daughter to become unsettled and they were happy and able to get us in and out in under 30mins.

My husband is due surgery now but it's going to have to happen when all of this is over.

You all are still awesome.

AllesAusLiebe · 27/03/2020 13:35

Well, my neighbour who was responsible for the biggest whooping and cheering last night has just had her dad turn up to remove an old piece of furniture. He went into the house and stayed for around half an hour, then they both had a good laugh outside.

I'm kind of pleased I didn't know about the clapping now. I'm supporting the NHS by sticking to the rules and keeping away from idiots like this.

BunsyGirl · 27/03/2020 17:34

I was in bed. Exhausted after trying to WFH and homeschool at the same time while recovering from what I believe to be Coronavirus and arguing with a travel agent to get back the £6.6k they owe me. I do support the NHS but has run out of energy last night.

Scarriff · 27/03/2020 17:39

Voting Labour does nothing at all for the NHS . This is a pandemic and exceptional circumstances prevail. In my street, people came out and clapped, someone blasted a bit of Elgar, and we also sent gifts to the staff at the nearest hospital, set up a mutual support group and promised ourselvesca street party when its all over. Everything makes the whole situation a bit more bearable for us and I guess its the same up and down the country. So why flaunt uour Labour voting credentials here when you could be doing something nice for your neighbours?

Stressybetty · 27/03/2020 17:45

I didn't go out, I was thinking about it but was too shy on my own. My DH refused as our scummy NDN were out clapping with their kids and he had no intention of joining in with their hypocrisy when they are not taking the situation seriously. They have been in and out constantly since lockdown, mostly to corner shop several times a day and local takeaway.

Mumgonenuts2020 · 27/03/2020 17:52

We are the first house on our caldesac l clapped on my own. I could hear people around the corner but on the other side of or road there is elderly housing and we didn’t see anyone clapping outside their side 😀

Fartcakes · 27/03/2020 17:52

I clapped, it wasn't until I read this thread that I thought about what my neighbours did or didn't do. I didn't see them outside but I don't for a second think they don't care about the NHS

Shell4429 · 27/03/2020 17:53

I didn’t clap either, but showed my support for the NHS by voting Labour in the GE. As far as I am concerned anyone who voted Tory and clapped last night are massive hypocrites.

Shell4429 · 27/03/2020 17:55

Nothing to do with voting Labour? It has EVERYTHING to do with it. The situation is so awful in the hospitals because it has been seriously underfunded!

FelicisNox · 27/03/2020 17:56

@TheWordmeister don't be such a spiteful asshat..... it made all the difference in the world to the myriad of people putting themselves at risk every day for ingrates like you.

We didn't think it would make a difference and we didn't think we would care but many of us were in tears at such an outpouring of support and love from our fellow humans.

You keep telling yourself it's virtue signalling and then you won't have to feel as crummy as you are eh?

My friend is going to work on the Covid Ward on Monday and she's scared to death. Why don't you think on that rather than on yourself?

Reginabambina · 27/03/2020 17:57

@Shell and labour would change that how? If they’d won the last election the economy would have tanked and we’d be in an even worse position to deal with this.

Shona52 · 27/03/2020 17:57

If you didn’t know how can you hold yourself in a bad light. As you say it’s not that you don’t care you just didn’t know about it. No need to be so had on yourself x

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 27/03/2020 18:03

I think anyone who voted Corbyn in as leader of the Labour Party shouldn’t have clapped - you left many with no option but to vote Tory with that anti Semitic loon at the forefront! The nhs failure is therefore your doing!

Also didn’t the last labour government cut close to 25000 beds

Tbh no government does enough for the nhs.

Camphillgirl · 27/03/2020 18:09

You don’t have to go outside to clap you can do it indoors. It’s the thought that counts. Frontliners everywhere have got the message that we are all grateful for their efforts. Well done everybody clappers and clapped. X

purplebunny2012 · 27/03/2020 18:14

YABU for caring what the neighbours think and worrying about it.
I didn't because I literally forgot

CHARLonodn90 · 27/03/2020 18:16

I didn’t go out and clap because I didn’t want to. But of course I care. I’ve signed up to volunteer. Don’t sweat it. And definitely don’t give a FF what people think of you. You’ve nothing to prove.

Shockers · 27/03/2020 18:18

Most of my family work for the NHS, as do some of my friends. They were all very touched by the appreciation! Smile.

browneyes77 · 27/03/2020 18:19

Why peoole are bringing politics into this is beyond me Hmm

Shockers · 27/03/2020 18:19

@CHARLonodn90- have you heard anything yet? I registered the other day but haven’t heard.

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 27/03/2020 18:22

Why peoole are bringing politics into this is beyond me

I can't work out if this is a parody! Grin I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt

AlternativePerspective · 27/03/2020 18:25

Saying “I didn’t clap because I voted labour” what a crock of shite. So, you don’t appreciate the NHS then? You know that they are still going despite the fact you voted for labour (who the vast majority of the country didn’t vote for because of their leader who is continuing to show himself as a massive twat.) but that’s alright because you “voted labour.”

I didn’t vote conservative and I did clap but I was challenged over it on social media by someone who said that while this is great, this is in fact the first time that they have felt supported even by the public, and the thought is that when this is all over the public will still go back to being unsupportive of NHS staff in the main. And I do think he had a point.

I think that the clapping was moving,I actually thought I’d feel like a pillock if I went outside and was the only one there, but the whole street was out.

But I think that this show of solidarity can’t end there. People need to commit to valuing the NHS more than we do. Not rocking up to a&e for trivialities or because you can’t hold your drink, not abusing the staff who do a fantastic job. The support for the NHS only really exists if people can do all of those things and are prepared to do so even when this is all over.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 27/03/2020 18:30

Thank you for the link, perfectstorm, I absolutely agree with you. If our government won't fund PPE properly, then we can do that to show our appreciation of our brilliant NHS.

eeyore228 · 27/03/2020 18:31

Not everyone did no, it doesn’t make you less of a person!!!

plumpynoo · 27/03/2020 18:36

I didn't either. Instead I was sitting with an exhausted NHS worker who had gotten home from work and needed some dinner! I feel that my contribution of keeping him fed and taken care of is enough! Grin
