Is it ethical to order non essentials on line?

I really want to but think I probably shouldn’t. I would like some items to do some DIY projects to keep me busy during lockdown but they are obviously totally non essential. I have not yet got beyond browsing. I would buy from small eBay sellers, not huge multinationals such as Amazon. I would have them delivered and left outside so no contact involved.

Pros-
Support small businesses in difficult times.
Provide employment for delivery drivers who need money too

Cons-
I want these things. I do not need them.
Delivery drivers are paid peanuts and so would be forced to risk infection for 50p a week.

I had better wait, hadn’t I?

@ethelfelda

They are classed as key workers-essential. What is essential about getting cloths. DIY stuff, make up, craft supply's etc. Medicines, food, toilet paper/wipes yes that is essential goods that is why theses services have not been suspended. But what if they have to be because we can't get this virus under some sort of control. People's health/life are at risk.

I think if you are supporting a small business when buying your items, and maybe even buying them direct from the business rather than going through Amazon, that you would be fine. If this local business was close by and the proprietor could walk them round as part of their daily exercise allowance even better!

This thread is so funny.

90% of mn seem to think that going out for a walk and not touching a single thing Is a threat and no one should be working etc. But because they want stuff and they want it now - it’s perfectly OK for the non essential workers in those factories to be packing up their crap and for the delivery drivers to pack it up. DO NOT kind yourselves in your own selfish delusion that keyworkers, working for other people on minimum wage or there about want the work. They do not! They want to be furloughed on 80% of there wages like the rest of the Country.
