Can my children go out for another walk today?

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

Thanks all! I haven’t been for a second walk mainly because I have developed an insanely bad pain in my right leg which I suffer from time to time. I wonder if it’s because I’ve been less physically active than normal? Anyway, thanks all for your input. I totally respect the one walk/exercise a day thing. I haven’t been out today but it all seems a bit pants when someone goes out for a 4/5 mile walk for a few hours which counts as one exercise yet we often only go out for 15 minutes max and can’t do it twice (Dd has a physical disability and cannot walk for miles) so even two short walks is less than a really long one my friends are doing?

I live in the sticks. There’s no one around apart from a few local dog walkers which we distance from anyway as our dog is nervous of other dogs! We live 30 seconds away from a large field/accessible walking area! So it’s really not that bad. We really don’t see anyone!

Less chance being close to someone on a walk than our garden. We are semi detached and we have a family next door. We have a tall fence but their toddler keeps coming up to see our dog (I really don’t mind generally) and DS keeps talking to them. He has autism and doesn’t social distancing so it’s got to the point walking is safer than our garden in the terms of seeing people!

Building sites (non essential) are still operating

Yup. My youngest lad lives in Manchester and sent me a photo of the builders working on the new bloody hotel beside him! It’s joke! I feel sorry for the builders.

B0bbin · 26/03/2020 16:26

Yes, i yhink it's slightly different if you live in a rural area. If you'll see nobody on your travels, it's not a problem xx

LotsaDo · 26/03/2020 16:26

Of course they can.

I will go even further and say it is the idiots who follow rules blindly instead of ensuring they are applicable for individual circumstances are the ones who put others in danger.

Exactly this. Your DCs physical and mental health matters too. It's the rule about gatherings that is far more important and that's what is being enforced. The idea of one trip out a day is to discourage people in busy areas from popping in and out as they might normally, it's not that you absolutely must not go out more than once.

Nimello · 26/03/2020 16:26

I'm sick of people laying into one another on here, especially the Social Distancing Police (and yes, I am sticking to the guidelines, though I hate them with a passion).

OP, I'd go for the walk with your children. Telling people to stay at home is a way of taking people out of circulation who are doing things which are evidently risky. It isn't supposed to punish people who are already being sensible.

TheWordmeister · 26/03/2020 16:26

People have gone mad. One extra rural walk is perfectly fine. I went for a run today at 8am and saw no-one. I live in the countryside. If I chose to do another walk I wouldn’t be putting anyone at risk.

It’s different in you live in the burbs.

FunkyKingston · 26/03/2020 16:27

That’s why it’s limited to once a day for everyone
My dc can’t leave the house for 12 weeks, makes me angry when people considering flouting the rules when their dc can go out every single day.

So basically it is fuck all about taking a measured sensible approach to risk and all to do 'with, my children can't so no child should.'

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 26/03/2020 16:28

God I hate all the cunts who think the rules don't apply to them on these threads. The sooner the armed forces are on the streets the better

Dear God.

This little nugget of informed, balanced wisdom is a perfect example of why people will just stop posting.

Certain posters cannot actually process information or make intelligent, reasoned statements anymore.

We're left with this ^^.

It's fine OP. Enjoy your walk. You have made a sensible assessment of the situation. Just ignore the unhinged madness here.

DowntownAbby · 26/03/2020 16:29

@TheLadyAnneNeville

I'd say yes. A time is coming when road blocks are to be set up and greater policing of the terms. If you live remotely and don’t see others (as you say) then I really cannot see any harm in it.

Do you not see how stupid this is?

The exact reason there will be roadblocks and troops on the street is because of people ignoring the rules.

And you're saying it's ok to ignore the rules until the police enforce them.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 26/03/2020 16:29

Just seen your update OP. Enjoy your walk another day. Grin

JollyHostess · 26/03/2020 16:30

Your mistake is posting on here to become rage fodder.
Do it or not as you see best but keep it to yourself!

FunkyKingston · 26/03/2020 16:31

God I hate all the cunts who think the rules don't apply to them on these threads. The sooner the armed forces are on the streets the better

The saying about rules being there for the guidance of wise men and the obedience of fools never seem so apt.

Nettleskeins · 26/03/2020 16:34

Op, a pain in your leg could be a dvt or blood.clot. please.please keep an eye on this. Google.deep vein thrombosis. It is accompanied sometimes by shortness of breath. My husband had this, did not notice for several days, thought it was sciatica. But it was sitting long hours at his.desk. now it is a medical necessity for him to take two long walks a day, although he now has an exercise bike and cycles several km in the shed thankgoodnedss in present situation. And is on bloodthinners.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 26/03/2020 16:36

@DowntownAbby, yes I can see that my advice was rather stupid. But I walk to several places with my dog. Two parks are padlocked shut. One involves a short car journey and the other is a picnic lakeside beauty spot which has been heaving, each time I’ve passed.

We have a small food delivery service and my route often takes in the lakeside. I think the weather and people going stir crazy has meant that everyone is doing the lake. So, isn’t that sticking blindly to the rules and enhancing the threat? Saw kids on roller skates whizzing along. I’m glad I went somewhere deserted.

Grobagsforever · 26/03/2020 16:36

Well said @FunkyKingston

TryingToBeBold · 26/03/2020 16:36

I can only assume that there is a second virus in circulation that makes people oblivious to all common sense. These measures are to stop the virus being passed around in an uncontrolled way. Apply some common sense and minimise human contact. If you live in Z1 London that means complying with the once a day rule to manage the numbers of people on the streets. If you live in a remote Croft in the Scottish highlands you are not increasing the risk of transmitting the virus by leaving your property more than once a day.

cardibach · 26/03/2020 16:37

@1forsorrow you’ve misunderstood. Surely the child was out walking the dog not doing their one outing for exercise so they should be able to go out. People with dogs don’t get to do two walks. The dog walk and their exercise are the same walk.

Ponoka7 · 26/03/2020 16:37

"Once a day. If people start going twice it doubles the volume of people out."

So if you live by a field that no one else goes into you will take the volume upto 1. In a rural setting it doesn't double up the volume in a way that will increase the infection risk.

It's all about infection risk. The IP would not increase that, so it is fine.

BJ refused to answer Corbyn's questions about warehouses and construction yesterday in Parliament because they are winging it and the rules aren't making sense.

TheLadyAnneNeville · 26/03/2020 16:37

Genuinely NOT wanting to be goady BTW

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 26/03/2020 16:37

You can definitely spot the panic buyers on here.

1278kj · 26/03/2020 16:38

Thank you @Nettleskeins. I will keep an eye. I have had similar pains before and was told it’s muscular! The pain is mainly at the top of leg around my thigh around my bottom/Lower back. Some pain lower down the leg but not as bad as the top. Not very technical with this obviously 🤣

We are rural, I haven’t been out all week as I have cv symptoms but once I’m allowed out I may go twice. Even when not on lock down it’s pretty rare to see anyone when I’m out walking.

TryingToBeBold · 26/03/2020 16:38

Sorry just to add..
Neighbours are shopping each other to the police for going out running twice so just a head up.

1278kj · 26/03/2020 16:41

Also just to add to my post. I Have been in as much as possible. Have only been on walks, haven’t been to the shop in a week, not gone out for no reason or anything. Even before the ‘lockdown’ we didn’t go anywhere or go out and panic buy. My car haven’t been driven since last week. I feel like I am abiding the rules just was unsure on a second walk!
