Can my children go out for another walk today?

I’m aware it’s episode of exercise today. I have not been out today.

Basically my partner took dc and the dog out this morning before he went to work - he has to go to work. I was waiting in for a delivery so couldn’t go.

Going a little crazy and thinking of going out for a walk myself but that means two walks for dc today!

I live in a rural area. Hardly anyone around. Probably wouldn’t meet anyone and plenty of open space to socially distance anyway.

Aibu to take them out for another walk?

This is a key part of the act - and why the exercise rule seems a bit strange

f) to travel for the purposes of work or to provide voluntary or charitable services, where it is not reasonably possible for that person to work, or to provide those services, from the place where they are living;

In other words - if you can't work from home, then it's ok to go to work.

Oh - and the bit on exercise

(b)to take exercise either alone or with other members of their household;

Yes - it is interestng reading that leglisation

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 07:44

his is an official police notice someone got on another thread. IT IS A POLICE NOTICE because it is LAW which stats YOU cannot go out for another walk no matter where you live even if you bloody well live out in the country! If you go you are breaking the LAW get it? Or shall I shout even louder and repeatedly till you do get

Have you read the law?

It does NOT state that

Sostenueto · 27/03/2020 07:46

It is because people think, even now, they can do whatever they want, not heeding advice so laws have to be made that my Dgd sitting at home alone petrified in case she has internal bleeding again has to be on lockdown. Do the right thing and follow the law please!

DowntownAbby · 27/03/2020 07:48

LAST WEEK

MNers - OMG!! Government need to act now! We should be on lockdown! They are killing us all with their inaction!! OMG!!!

THIS WEEK

MNers - Yeah, but when the government said we must stay at home, it didn't mean me. You're stupid if you're just following the instructions to the letter, etc, etc,"

Sostenueto · 27/03/2020 07:49

Read the bloody police notice which clearly states you can only go out for exercise once a day chomalungma*

LotsaDo · 27/03/2020 07:51

There was actually a quote from a 'senior conservative' in the daily mail saying that the minister may have a quiet work with the chief constable of Derbyshire police re. the drone incident, basically saying they're barking up the wrong tree. Don't know how true it is being the the DM but I think it does show that some police forces are overstepping a bit. There's nothing in the act about how often you can go out for exercise... obviously they're saying once in the guidance to minimise people taking the pee but also expecting people to use common sense!

Sostenueto · 27/03/2020 07:52

You know what? Anyone who thinks they can flout the law are nothing but selfish idiots. I hope anyone that sees you flouting the law reports you!

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 07:55

Read the law.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/pdfs/uksi_20200350_en.pdf

Because I think the law is more likely to be correct than a police notice.

It is important to know the law in any situation. The police are known to sometimes stretch it and misinterpret Look at Section 6

diddl · 27/03/2020 07:56

"And the law makes no mention of how many times you can leave for exercise...."

Except it does-unless the rules have now changed.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2020 07:57

That notice was produced before the actual law was published. I think it was an fair interpretation of what had been said up to that point, and dissuading loads of people from going to popular places is sensible. But, turns out it's not (yet) the LAW that people can't exercise more than once a day.

I suppose there will be discretion exercised as to 'reasonable excuse'. Police in local areas are perhaps better placed to figure that out than us random people living in different places.

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 07:58

The law is here

MasakaBuzz · 27/03/2020 07:58

@copycopypaste

“No, Jesus what is wrong with people! One form of exercise a day. That doesn't mean you can go out twice. Are people either that stupid they don't get it, or that selfish they choose an extra walk away ver people's health.”

The time is now 07:48. In what possible way will the half an hour walk I took with the dog at 06:00 this morning, when I saw nobody other than at distances of several hundred yards, impact on anyone else’s health?

It will however impact on my own health in that I have done 10 minutes of fast walking, taken some iPhone pictures of the sun rising and the last of the daffodils.

I will go out again in early evening to another deserted park. I have joints riddled with Osteo Arthritis. There is a limit to what exercise I can do at home. If I don’t keep walking regularly I assure you I will require a great deal more intervention from health professionals, putting far more people’s health at risk.

Try not to be a complete idiot. One size doesn’t always fit all.

derxa · 27/03/2020 07:59

Is there something about living in the countryside that means you can't just quietly make your own decisions? Worra We're all straw chewing simpletons. Grin In other news us farmers don't like walks at all. Walking in the fields is work and that's why we have quad bikes.
Seriously just go for a walk if you're remote. Save your mental health.
Don't drive to a beauty spot for a walk. That's just fucking stupid.

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 07:59

Errol has it - there were Guidlines - to dissuade people to go out lots.

But the law just states that exercise is allowed,

It does not state what exercise is allowed - or even where it is allowed.

That's the issue with rapid leglisation.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2020 08:00

The 'rules' now have the force of law - but that law is not as prescriptive as various previous statements implied.

BruceAndNosh · 27/03/2020 08:00

It's a shame that this virus affects the elderly and vulnerable members of society.
If it wiped out the stupid.....

Ponoka7 · 27/03/2020 08:00

DowntownAbby, but individual cases vary and someone living in the middle of nowhere doesn't have to follow the advice that Londoners are willfully ignoring.

Patel, who i don't like, is calling for our borders to close. BJ has said no. We aren't just repatriating nationals, we are allowing flights in from none EEU countries in, Iran being one. Builders and warehouse operatives are still congregating, tubes are still packed, buses are busy because there's less being ran.

We aren't curing the virus by staying in, we are delaying getting it. You judge your actions on the infection risk and your risk to others. Because this will be around for at least 18 months.

The OPs actions have no infection risk. It really is that simple.

There seems to be the impression tjat we stay in and this will be gone in a couple of months. People are hoping that they will still be going on holiday in July and will go if possible. The Mexican government has said that poor people are immune, so no action is needed. Mexico is a popular holiday place. The UK will be back in crisis in September.

So can we just not blindly follow BJs word and apply critical thinking as well.

PolloDePrimavera · 27/03/2020 08:02

It's a blanket rule because some people take the piss. If you are social distancing and especially not even seeing anyone else (!) then of course it's fine. It's the same rule for rural villages as London so obviously easier to avoid people in the former.

diddl · 27/03/2020 08:22

*"Errol has it - there were Guidlines - to dissuade people to go out lots.

But the law just states that exercise is allowed,"*

Thank you for clearing that up.

Leakinglikeacolander · 27/03/2020 08:22

My dh did a dog walk at 6 this morning, often clears a bit of litter. Today however the litter on the park was some latex gloves, masks and a barbecue.
It beggars belief the amount of morons out there.

OlaEliza · 27/03/2020 08:36

@1278kj Did you go for your walk yesterday?

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2020 08:38

Thank you for clearing that up.

I think our legislators and the people who create and manage the government website can take the credit.

diddl · 27/03/2020 08:41

"I think our legislators and the people who create and manage the government website can take the credit."

Well yes, but I hadn't been reading posts properlyBlush & was interchanging law/guidelines so you did clear that up for me.

chomalungma · 27/03/2020 08:42

Can you imagine how they can draft such laws so quickly - and get it right?

It's a skill being a law drafter.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2020 09:16

Yes, impossible to 100% cover everything quickly. The law will require the exercise of discretion and judgement - if a policeman stops you they may or may not accept your excuse for being out is reasonable. If they don't accept it then obviously get back home and don't make their jobs harder by arguing the toss.
