To be astonished at NHS red tape?

I'm fully prepared to be told IABU by someone who knows better.... student son is home. Our nearby general infirmary is desperate for casual workers in the current crisis so he signed up, took in his documents a week ago and was accepted.

But he can't start until uniform delivered in about 2 weeks, ID badge delivered (no timescale) he gives proof of all his vaccinations ever, and is expected to get this from GP in current crisis, but GP is now in university city and they're not answering phone, had an occupational health interview, and finally, does the right training (no timescale). That's it as at today but every day there seems to be a new requirement.

Sad

I work in the NHS,

Don't be suprised if he doesn't start within the next 3 months. Typically badly managed recruitment processes.

DaveMinion · 26/03/2020 11:32

Does he have access to their online booking app? Mine has all my vaccination record on mine that I can print off. Just an idea.

Agree though, NHS recruitment process is ridiculous.

Tableclothing · 26/03/2020 11:37

By and large, yes, NHS recruitment is ridiculous. It took 4 months from being offered the job to starting work, in my case, and that is not unusual.

However, some of the red tape is important. When you see that hundreds of thousands of people have volunteered to help in a crisis, you do wonder who will filter out the perverts, thieves and general unsuitables.
