Hen Do Refund Nightmare

FuzzyTights · 26/03/2020 10:54

Sorry in advance for posting in AIBU but I need some quick replies.

I'm MoH for my best friend and I've organised a hen do that we were supposed to be going on in April. Obviously, it is now cancelled.

I booked an Air BnB using my credit card and paid in full with the other hens paying their share directly to me. Which I then put on the credit card.

I can get a full refund but they will only refund me onto my credit card. How on earth am I meant to refund everyone else? I can't afford to refund anyone from my current account. What am I going to do?

I'm extremely stressed!

withdraw cash from your credit card

Medievalist · 26/03/2020 10:56

And get some perspective

lubeybooby · 26/03/2020 10:56

or register that credit card with your paypal account and send via paypal to them

LIZS · 26/03/2020 10:56

Have you already spent the money they gave you?

Bettybbbb · 26/03/2020 10:56

Can you buy the other hens gift cards for supermarkets or something with your credit card?

donquixotedelamancha · 26/03/2020 10:58

I can get a full refund

I think your definition of 'nightmare' may be a little off.

inwood · 26/03/2020 10:59

Open a monzo and transfer from cc to monzo and pay them that way?

InfiniteSheldon · 26/03/2020 11:01

Explain to credit card company they wont want you that much in credit and will refund you.

ShellsAndSunrises · 26/03/2020 11:02

The credit card company will refund it to your card if it puts you in credit. They won’t want you to hold a positive balance.

FuzzyTights · 26/03/2020 11:02

The money they've gave me has gone straight back onto the credit card. I'm unable to withdraw cash from the credit it card.

Can you explain the PayPal and Monzo more please?

Yes just contact credit card company and they will transfer to a bank acc your credit.

bestbefore · 26/03/2020 11:03

You will get credit back from your card then won't you? Say it was £500 and you then get a refund of £500 - I think your credit will then be paid back to you?

Jengnr · 26/03/2020 11:04

Be kind lasted long didn’t it? Ffs. It might not be a nightmare to you but it clearly is for the OP.

shookennotstirred · 26/03/2020 11:05

Use your credit card for shopping/bills etc and send the cash to mates. Might take some time though.

sleepyhead · 26/03/2020 11:07

I don't know the amount of cash involved here op, but can you do all your spending this month on the credit card and then pay back the hens from the cash you therefore don't use?

Presumably the rest of them can wait a short time for the money as it's cash they weren't expecting to have?

Maybe prioritise anyone who is short of cash due to job loss etc so they get paid back first?

Laaf80 · 26/03/2020 11:08

Check to make sure you will not incur high interest if you transfer from the CC. Your bank may be able to advise on best way to make the transfer.

If it’s put your CC in credit (ie you had no existing balance) then I’d use that credit to make your normal purchases and give them the cash you would have spent otherwise.

DartmoorChef · 26/03/2020 11:08

Will they send you a cheque perhaps

bigbluebus · 26/03/2020 11:10

There was a thread on here the other day about people receiving refunds for cancelled holidays on their credit cards. They all seemed to have got the money transferred to their bank account by their credit card companies. Yours should be able to do this. Only reason I can think of why they wouldn't if is there's a debt on there that isn't being effectively serviced.

WorriedMummyNow · 26/03/2020 11:11

PayPal them the money! It'll go straight to their bank accounts but you can pay by credit card and won't be bit by cash withdrawal charges. Smile

TerrorWig · 26/03/2020 11:13

Call the credit card company. Most are putting special measures in place for these scenarios.

Spanishsunawaits · 26/03/2020 11:13

This happened to me this week regarding a refund for a cancelled holiday. I rang Amex to explain and they asked for my bank details and transferred the money to my bank account within 3 days.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 26/03/2020 11:16

And a shitty reply from Medievalist who didn't need to reply at all. I don't know what these sorts get from doing that but it's sad.

It's quite a simple process with Paypal, OP and you've already had some good advice too so you'll be sorted. :)

FuzzyTights · 26/03/2020 11:23

Thanks all, I'm feeling much better. Will call the credit card company.

And get some perspective

Get some yourself and think about why you feel the need to make snide little remarks like that.

Fruitsaladjelly · 26/03/2020 11:26

Don’t ever draw cash from your credit card! This will completely Fuck your credit score. They will just have to wait!
