D(debatable)H made himself and son eggs yesterday for breakfast despite my slightly worried “have you counted how many we have?” He’s just cooked 4 more for himself and son leaving youngest and me (I’m always last to be thought of anyway) with none. I wanted to bake today. Eggs last longer in a cake right?! Grin. He’s so selfish with food. Just takes what he wants even if it’s the kids’ stuff. Never thinks to replace it or if it might be needed e.g. drinks all the milk then wonders why there isn’t any for coffee. He thinks I’m being a drama queen as he can just pop to shops. And this is why I’m stressed. I don’t want any of us going out unless we have to. And we don’t HAVE to if we eat sensibly. We had a huge row on Monday so I may still be harbouring rage about that. Tell me if any of you have selfish partners. I’m thinking about one previous OP whose OH ate all the treats and her posh biscuits.

A kilometer away not an hour away!

Sackofspuds · 26/03/2020 12:34

We're on egg rations as we all eat a lot. We have 4 boxes. They are named.

delilahbucket · 26/03/2020 12:39

Eggs last for weeks after you've bought them so buy extra as they are cheap, filling and nutritious. I really couldn't get cross about not being able to bake a cake right now. Perhaps when organising the shopping, you say to others in your household "any requests with the shopping" and if you have something in the house specifically earmarked for cooking, tell them in advance. Works for us. Don't try to be in control, it's not just your home and your food.

Ninkanink · 26/03/2020 12:39

We have six eggs left. We’re going to use those over two weeks, as we are aiming for as long as possible between shopping trips.

If my DH was selfishly shovelling food into his own mouth in the manner of this man to the detriment of my child(ren), and continued doing so once I had entreated him not to, I genuinely would divorce him as soon as practicable.

DishingOutDone · 26/03/2020 12:42

Does anyone remember the snackbitch thread a few weeks ago when eggs and everything else was still plentiful? In fact there were at least a couple of threads like that, H's coming home eating all the food, everyone else's dinner and the general consensus was the wifey was always at fault by default, and needed to get out pronto buy to more food for the Big Men because penis.

Now we have a significant move towards it being wifey's fault by default as she should have a wide range of healthy alternatives to hand to enable H's behaviour.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 26/03/2020 12:42

This is not about eggs, it’s about the OPs greedy selfish husband.

AuntieMarys · 26/03/2020 12:43

Loads of eggs used here. 2 Poached eggs for breakfast most days, omelettes, hard boiled just yo gave.
No egg shortage in our supermarket at all.

Ninkanink · 26/03/2020 12:44

Yes, all hail the mighty Penis! 🙄🙄

RaininSummer · 26/03/2020 12:45

No eggs for 3 weeks here now.

DishingOutDone · 26/03/2020 12:45

@delilahbucket says Don't try to be in control, it's not just your home and your food but in the previous sentence OP is told she needs to be better at shopping.

lynsey91 · 26/03/2020 12:46

I didn't realise eggs were in short supply in places. Me and DH are vegetarian and eat loads of eggs, probably at least 10 a week.

Luckily where we live lots of people keep chickens and they always have eggs for sale

DishingOutDone · 26/03/2020 12:46

@AuntieMarys and @RaininSummer - your point is?! You two need to get together (well, up to 6 metres obvs).

DameHannahRelf · 26/03/2020 12:47

Reading this makes me so glad I'm single, and that ds (9) has taken on board the whole rationing thing, we haven't been beyond our front gate since Monday, hopefully won't have to until we run out of pet food, early next week.

Topbird29 · 26/03/2020 12:49

If you do get hold of some eggs, you can freeze them to use for baking. Then he can't use them all (unless he realises he could do scrambled eggs). We have had eggs in local butchers, grocers and bakery here, so guess we are lucky

Polkadotpjs · 26/03/2020 12:51

@TheProdigalKittensReturn that’s so awful. People. Well some of them, are shits
To the question about my breakfast - I wasn’t after the eggs for my breakfast. It’s the principle of using first according to his wants and needs.

OP posts:
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 26/03/2020 12:57

I think the current situation is causing a lot of people to show who they really are. Politeness falling away during a crisis and all - they were always like this, but now it's easier to see, both for the shitty selfish people and for the wonderful ones.

Polkadotpjs · 26/03/2020 13:00

Yes @TheProdigalKittensReturn you’re spot on there. Nice people get even nicer and bad habits that bigger, then become intolerable.

OP posts:
delilahbucket · 26/03/2020 13:00

@DishingOutDone if OP insists on doing all the shopping then yes, she does need to ask other household members for input, and not be fully in control of it.

Your point relevant to ops situation being?

Eggs last for weeks after you've bought them so buy extra as they are cheap

Bit freaking difficult when they are rationed in shops!
Perhaps when organising the shopping, you say to others in your household
The only person who needs told that taking all the food is not on is her oh, a supposed adult!

Don't try to be in control, it's not just your home and your food.
When your dh is eating food and taking milk that could feed your 3 yr old and yourself its not about control! Its about common decency.
Stealing a treat a person has saved up for themselves just because you can is shitty behaviour too.

All these posts blaming op for not pandering tonor having to explain the current situation to a selfish greedy man! How has he managed the rest of his life without explicit instructuons not to be a selfish greedy git. Does he steal from workmates? I doubt it.

ittakes2 · 26/03/2020 13:03

We have an egg shortage with restrictions of 6eggs each at our local farm shop and we live in a semi rural area.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 26/03/2020 13:08

I wonder how much the divorce rate is going to go up as a result of people being forced into quarantine with their spouses and the aspects of the spouse's personality that they'd never liked but tolerated becoming intolerable as a result.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 26/03/2020 13:11

On the "nice people getting nicer" side of the coin, you get people like this.

Tulipstulips · 26/03/2020 13:12

living with someone who counted eggs, watched my food consumption would drive me mad

You’ll have a shock if rationing is introduced - the government will be watching your food consumption then, as well as anyone who loves with you.

OlaEliza · 26/03/2020 13:15

Will use all the milk for his breakfast and leave none for me or my sons cereal, he'll make his breakfast first and then decide to sort out our 3 yo.

Surely the only thing this proves of that you don't have enough milk for everyone and need to plan your food shop better? If it happens once a year, ok. But if this is a regular occurrence the problem is primarily lack of organisation

No, it proves that he's a greedy bastard that would rather stuff his face than think about his wife and children.

How many eggs does a 3yo eat? He's most likely eaten 3 eggs and left none for anyone else.

randomsabreuse · 26/03/2020 13:18

We have had spotty egg supply around us. Flour for cake and bread are different, and the other big shortage (up there with pasta and loo roll) is yeast!
