To think it's madness

For supermarkets to allow key workers to shop for an hour? Isn't that increasing their risk of catching the virus?

What do you expect them to do?

LemonScentedStickyBat · 25/03/2020 19:42

Well, they could go in first thing in their dedicated hour when it’s quieter and they are able to find what they need and get out quicker, or they could just take their chances with everyone else? I know which I think is madness.

Leaannb · 25/03/2020 19:45

Are they suppose to starve?

SugarNyx · 25/03/2020 19:46

So they should starve? 🙄 supermarkets are already hotspots because EVERYONE goes in them. Makes no difference in the scheme
Of things. At least this way the people who will be saving our life potentially are well fed.

Ken1976 · 25/03/2020 19:46

I heard earlier today that one of the big supermarkets is keeping produce back for NHS staff instead . Lots work 12 hour shifts so can't get to shops in the allocated hour (7-8am) so Sainsbury's, I think , when key workers can't find what they want on the shelves , will go to get it from the storeroom for them as long as they show their badge

Member869894 · 25/03/2020 19:46

No I think they should take their chances rather than all go in at the same time together and risk spreading it to each other

Ken1976 that sounds more sensible and less risky

You don’t understand infection control practices. You are talking rubbish. I am grateful for these times for us to get out shopping. In the politest way go away and think of something else to fill your time. By the way your welcome for us all going to work. I’d love to be working from home.

annamie · 25/03/2020 19:49

That makes zero sense OP.

Squirrelblanket · 25/03/2020 19:51

I'm hoping that things will settle down soon with supermarkets and then these measures won't be necessary. Until then I can't begrudge them at all!

Member869894 · 25/03/2020 19:51

User1511042793. Such assumptions. I'm a key worker too. Not a martyr though

rjebgf · 25/03/2020 19:52

Perhaps they should let the NHS workers park and show a shopping list which the Tesco employee could go and fetch for them. There should be no need to pay for your shop with an NHS id

Ponoka7 · 25/03/2020 19:54

There are no words....

Random18 · 25/03/2020 19:56

I think doing a specific time does not help.

Like Sunday morning - how many NHS workers could really have went at a different time?

Keeping food back is a much better idea imo.

Means that those working shifts can go at a time suitable to them.

Hopefully it should get better though. It seems to have calmed down now? DH went to Tesco last night around 8pm and it was nice and quiet and pretty much got what we needed.

Enough for us not to have to go for quite a few days.

Member869894 · 25/03/2020 19:58

I see the keyboard warriors are out in full tonight. I was merely making the point that we need our key workers to be well and so it seems madness to invite them to be in one place together at the same time.

OP posts:
Threelionsandalioness · 25/03/2020 20:00

@rjebgf wholeheartedly agree with you

Threelionsandalioness · 25/03/2020 20:01

Free car parking too

Winterwoollies · 25/03/2020 20:50

@Member869894 people not agreeing with you doesn’t make them ‘keyboard warriors’.

Surely you see the sense in keyworkers attending the supermarket when it is quiet, meaning they can be quicker and stay further away from others, thus reducing any chance of infection...? This will protect them from others and vice verse.

Member869894 · 25/03/2020 21:12

winterwoollies it s not quieter when they are there - ; it's just as full of people as at any other time. That' s my point

OP posts:
LemonScentedStickyBat · 25/03/2020 21:37

My experience this morning was that it was very quiet 7-8 (was waiting outside in my car!). Seemed to work well but am not in London or SE where things seem worse tbf.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 25/03/2020 21:47

I'm just pleased that the key workers keeping society going and us safe are being given some attention and consideration. It's long overdue and they deserve everything they're given at the moment. Given that so many of them have been unable to access food because of their long working hours, this seems the least we can do.
