Without coming into contact with people?!

I can’t get to my car (medical trips today) without getting close to children playing in the road

And I can’t walk our dog without crossing paths with about 100 other people. In addition to all the children on the estate playing out in the road, many others are playing in their front gardens - meaning I would have to walk in the road to stay 6ft from them. Down one road there was at least 5 groups of people (who are not one family or from one household) hanging around just on the pavement having a chat and many of whole were drinking beers(!) out in the sun
There were also people filing in and out of all the local shops for ‘essential’ shopping - such as an ice cream, or a can of coke.

This is not a summer holiday!

What is so hard about these guidelines and why does no one care?!

@choli yes we needed milk for the toddler.

Quite a bit different to popping to the shops for a quarter of sherbet lemons Smile

Actually he should have waited. The ice cream man came a while ago, he might have had some milk he could have given us Wink

My town is quiet apart from the over 70s. They don’t appear to be making any attempt at all to follow the rules.

RiftGibbon · 25/03/2020 21:02

People around my way seem to be being quite sensible. Seen a few cyclists, and joggers, quite a lot of dog-walkers. They're all pretty spread out and noticed yesterday people actively crossing the road/walking in the road to avoid passing within 6 feet.

We do however have a few locals moaning on social media about how terrible it is that they can't get their eyelashes done.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/03/2020 21:06

I have to say, everyone where I live is really sticking to it. I took the dog out earlier. Passed a few people who all were conscious of the 2 meter rule, not a single child out playing, but it was raining here today. Its very quiet.

Zaphodsotherhead · 25/03/2020 21:06

Yep. I just finished my supermarket work shift. People were coming in ALL DAY for lottery tickets, fags, beer, a packet of crisps. Not much 'essential shopping' going on, we were busy with people keeping their distance from other shoppers but thinking nothing of hanging over the counter to point out which scratchards they wanted to buy or to check the tobacco prices....

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/03/2020 21:07

I didn't go anywhere near the main street where the shops are though, so that could be different, but I doubt it.

VioletCharlotte · 25/03/2020 21:17

It's really quiet where I am (large town, south east). I've been working from home all day and have seen very few people walk past. Just the odd dog walker, a couple of runners, Mum with baby walking back from the shops. We front onto a green which is usually full of kids, but none have been out at all. I've just been out with the dog and not seen a single person.

MyBlueMoonbeam · 25/03/2020 21:18

I live in a rural area and was walking on the pavement today when a cyclist rode right next to me on the pavement less than 30cm away and said a cheery hello. I was not impressed.

I thought you were OK at less then 2m up to 15 mins 🤔

Not that I'm risking it tbh

MyBlueMoonbeam · 25/03/2020 21:20

This is advice in ROI

To think i should be able to go out
woodlands01 · 25/03/2020 21:36

tiredanddangerous agree re:the over 70s. I met several yesterday on my usual dog walk across a marsh area and along the tow path.
One man was stood at a very central point near entrance to main town. On a narrow footbridge leaning over looking at the lovely view. I waited for him to move he didn't, I asked him to move and he asked me what my problem was - was then incredibly rude about being allowed to do what he wanted. Then told me to have my dog on a lead so I unfortunately retorted and was rude back.
I live on the canal and their is a path from me to my neighbours which is actually private access to their house only. It is used as an extension to the tow path by walkers as it goes to a footbridge over the canal. My neighbour is currently losing the plot over all this - really I am concerned over his mental health so I am considering padlocking the gate to the pathway and seeing what havoc it creates. Working at home, bored and generally fed up with the small minority being dicks.

woodlands01 · 25/03/2020 21:37

Sorry about the English - there is a path

1Morewineplease · 25/03/2020 21:48

It’s funny how so many people have suddenly decided to take up jogging.
Our dog is walked twice a day, once by husband, early morning, and in the afternoon by me.we have never known there to be so many runners, joggers and walkers as there are now.
In my afternoon walk , there is a woodland clearing where so many children congregate, all primary aged, and not an adult in sight.
You’d think it was summer holiday time.
Don’t get me started on the neighbour hosting a noisy barbecue!

MyBlueMoonbeam · 25/03/2020 22:23

I would imagine that people are jogging/running on the roads instead of on a treadmill in a gym

shinyredbus · 25/03/2020 22:25

because some people are just fucking stupid 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yesterdayforgotten · 25/03/2020 22:26

Nothing wrong with a bbq as long as for household member only.

tinierclanger · 25/03/2020 22:36

“ It’s funny how so many people have suddenly decided to take up jogging. ”

I normally walk about 3 miles a day going to and from work. So yes, I am now trying to go for a 15 min run round the block to make up for not getting any other exercise Hmm

Yesterdayforgotten · 25/03/2020 22:39

I think it is okay for people who have running machines or cross trainers in their homes but most of us need to get out for some exercise when in the house all day every day at the moment. If I relied on just walking around my house I'd be huge.

NameChangedToProtect1 · 25/03/2020 22:54

I'm glad we've a big garden for the kids. Though I may get my trainers out and start running! Exercise is important but I'll aim to pick my times and routes to minimise any likley contact. Like most people I'm tying to reduce my contact with others as far as possible.

Oxo01 · 25/03/2020 23:02

Family member ( in London) said she had to pop out today around 11am to get baby milk, she said that the streets were mainly empty, shops had a handful of people with no queques and had quiet a good stock of food including the pasta everyone's been buying like crazy, but there were a lot of older people sitting / standing chatting to each other on the steet, the police were patrolling and told them they have to move on. Not sure how well that went down.

choli · 26/03/2020 10:32

yes we needed milk for the toddler.
No. You wanted milk for the toddler who would have survived perfectly well without it.

Yesterdayforgotten · 26/03/2020 10:46

To be fair @choli you dont know the age or diet of that toddler do it isnt for you to judge the importance or necessity.

Yesterdayforgotten · 26/03/2020 10:46

Those of us who are not hard of thinking can guess.

SapphireSeptember · 26/03/2020 14:27

@woodlands01 I'd get the padlock out. People shouldn't be using private paths willy nilly anyway.

adaline · 26/03/2020 14:42

Presumably it's because they're all working from home now and all the gyms are shut?
