Without coming into contact with people?!

I can’t get to my car (medical trips today) without getting close to children playing in the road

And I can’t walk our dog without crossing paths with about 100 other people. In addition to all the children on the estate playing out in the road, many others are playing in their front gardens - meaning I would have to walk in the road to stay 6ft from them. Down one road there was at least 5 groups of people (who are not one family or from one household) hanging around just on the pavement having a chat and many of whole were drinking beers(!) out in the sun
There were also people filing in and out of all the local shops for ‘essential’ shopping - such as an ice cream, or a can of coke.

This is not a summer holiday!

What is so hard about these guidelines and why does no one care?!

OP posts:

Why can't children play in their gardens? 🤷‍♀️ if they're from the same family what is the problem? X

Belindabelle · 25/03/2020 19:19

I live in a large village in the central belt of Scotland. The place is eerily quiet. Empty busses, hardly any traffic and no children in the playground for the last few days.

I went for a walk earlier. Passed two people walking dogs a few minutes from my home then didn’t see another sole for over an hour.

Didn’t go near the village centre so no idea how busy the shops were.

underneaththeash · 25/03/2020 19:20

Few people in our village...everyone being very good about staying away from each other.

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 25/03/2020 19:20

OP said children were playing in the road, not in their gardens.

PureAlchemy · 25/03/2020 19:21

Not many people out the front of the houses in our road today, but loads out in their back gardens. Which are more private than the front gardens.

DeeCeeCherry · 25/03/2020 19:23

Im in London and people are out & about. 2 houses on my road are having works done, so workmen going in & out of properties. It's generally a very quiet road but as people aren't at work I can see that more people than usual are walking around, some in groups of 3/4. Apparently there was a queue outside local Sainsburys today, who are only letting a few people in at a time. The problem is people in the queue aren't isolating, they're standing well within 2 metres of each other. I'm self-isolating but beginning to feel deep down that it's pointless tbh

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 25/03/2020 19:23

I live in Central London - super quiet in the streets around here - quite a lot of people running in the park.
Only spotted two idiots, sitting on a wall outside a block of flats with glasses of wine.

adaline · 25/03/2020 19:24

Roads were deserted here but everyone was out in their gardens - it was actually really nice. People doing DIY and mowing lawns, washing out to dry. I took the dog for his walk a the beach this morning and I saw three other people with dogs, plus a lady on her own having a walk. It was beautiful and everyone was respecting social distancing.

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 19:25

and there was a guy fishing in the river.

He was just going out to get food...leave him be! Shock

As if you need to go fishing.

flossyflorenceflounces · 25/03/2020 19:26

Our road’s like a morgue. I actually wondered today if everyone had died.
Seriously?!

Greggers2017 · 25/03/2020 19:30

@CharlotteCollinsneeLucas she put that many more we're playing in their front gardens. Meaning she had to walk in the road.

JaneEyre7 · 25/03/2020 19:31

It's been incredibly quiet around us today. In fact, it was eery out on the roads as there were so few cars. My work journey takes 40 minutes usually, was just under 15 today. I actually enjoyed driving it for once.

Sturmundcalm · 25/03/2020 19:32

my town seems to be generally taking it pretty seriously but I did have to laugh at the guy who came out of the supermarket and got into his car yesterday with a packet of potato scone and a box of coco pops - didn't really look like essential food shopping kept to a minimum...

Yesterdayforgotten · 25/03/2020 19:36

YANBU I witnessed people not crossing the road to avoid others, standing talking in groups when they were in middle of their walk and also not making any effort to keep enough distance. I have also seen neighbours talking standing the appropriate distance apart (great) but then their dogs running over while the other neighbour pets it! What do people not understand about lock down?

Alsohuman · 25/03/2020 19:38

Yup.

CallmeAngelina · 25/03/2020 19:39

Local car wash was operating today! How is that essential?

choli · 25/03/2020 19:39

*It's like a bank holiday here. Families popping to the shop for sweets, ice cream etc. DH went to the shop on the way home from work for milk, and the guy said they've been busier than usual with mainly elderly people, popping in to buy the paper, stamps or to do the lottery.

It's fucking madness.*
So, your husband "went" to the shop for the milk that will come between you and death, but others doing the same are "popping" in for non life saving items?

MT2017 · 25/03/2020 19:40

DH, DS1 and DS2 went out for a walk and some woman shouted at them from her car to get indoors Hmm

Yesterdayforgotten · 25/03/2020 19:40

'I can see that more people than usual are walking around, some in groups of 3/4.'

If that group is the same household it is allowed if that is their one daily exercise trip.

jillandhersprite · 25/03/2020 19:40

Suburb of Manchester here and roads are quiet for cars. People in their own gardens but occasionally chatting to neighbours at a distance or passing dog walkers. It's warm and sunny, people are outside and there is a bit of a jolly - let's make the best of this attitude which I don't mind and people are having a drink. we're following the guidelines and keeping distant but still communicating.
I can see that if the distance guidelines are being ignored though it must've hugely frustrating and will cause problems...

Alsohuman · 25/03/2020 19:41

but then their dogs running over while the other neighbour pets it!

Apparently that’s fine, dogs don’t carry it.

Pukkatea · 25/03/2020 19:46

I'm in London and went out for half an hour at lunchtime. I saw one woman walking her dogs.

Littlecaf · 25/03/2020 19:46

It’s really quiet here. Literally nobody about. Except for my mum who keeps popping to the post office and rings to say “Budgens have got eggs today!” FFS. Other than her, it’s a ghost town.

Inspiralcarpetry · 25/03/2020 19:47

East Midland village here, everyone being super respectful and only venturing out once for a walk, keeping a safe distance. It's very quiet round here!

ClientQueen · 25/03/2020 19:48

BBQs, picnics in parks, neighbours had their grandchildren over... ice cream van rammed with people queuing
