Can I ask what your childcare provider are expecting paid?

Can I ask what your childcare provider are asking to be paid whilst the children are at home?
Ours are asking-
After schools club
100% payment for 2 months then 50% retainer fee until schools reopen.
I am not sure if I am being unreasonable in not wanting to pay this?

25% for us.

Theholidayarmadillo4 · 30/03/2020 20:13

We haven't been told at all. It's interesting to read how places differ.

Alb1 · 30/03/2020 20:28

Ours are charging 50% but if you give notice then it’s 100% for the notice period, which penalises those of us who can’t afford to hold the place open. They arnt open to care workers either.

After school clubs and nurseries are in a bit of a different position support wise in a lot of cases:
-ASC don't generally get any council funding, so there's no funding to continue (the early years funding)
-The main ASC insurer (and others I believe) are not covering them at all whereas the same insurer has at least offered some cover to nurseries
-Most ASC are based in non-rateable premises, which means they can't access the grants
-certainly around here the council aren't engaging with ASC for keyworker care so no option to earn any income.
-Most ASC only bill term time even though outgoings are year round (they might operate a holiday club too) so they will only be billing retainers until end of term but might well have no income until August/September if not allowed to open over summer.

Following thread, I have not sent my child to nursery this week or last week, (dh is a key worker so they said our child could still go, but my work is closed so I don’t need to) they sent an email saying non key worker children can’t go and payments are paused, twice now I have emailed asking where I stand as I am choosing not to send my child, they keep avoiding the question. Getting rather annoyed now as if I need to pay I need to know and how much!! At first I thought maybe they are in chaos and extremely busy but reading how many of you have had an answer from their nursery/child minder is making me more frustrated. Not sure what to do. Told them I need to know by Wednesday at the latest. Will see.

Jessie9323 · 30/03/2020 20:46

Our childminder is charging 50% of fees

lboogy · 30/03/2020 21:08

Chain nursery and they've said no fees until operational again. I was surprised at how different places have different policies.

YeahWhatevver · 30/03/2020 21:10

100% for 5 days, 25% thereafter.

In the contract written I'm guessing for snow days etc. Not at all suitable for months of shutdown.

Quite a few parents offering to pay more where they can

Figgygal · 30/03/2020 21:11

Private nursery - 25% retainer

snowone · 30/03/2020 21:12

Private nursery - paid what I owed, nothing going further!

Saddler · 30/03/2020 21:23

An utter piss take if any nursery wants paying for a service they're not providing. No fees at ours from April onwards.

Fefifoefum · 30/03/2020 21:50

Ours haven’t said yet. They opened for a week for key workers children then gave one days notice and closed!
I’ve had to scramble around to try and find some childcare, I’m going to have to move my daughter to another setting without any settling in, I’ve not even had chance to view it. The woman was nice on the phone? Fingers crossed.
All whilst trying to work full time in A&E.
I simply can’t afford to pay anything, I’m already worrying about affording more childcare as my mother can’t help as she usually would.
It’s been a very stressful week. If they ask for any money I’ll have to be very careful in my response.

londonrach · 30/03/2020 21:54

Dh says their broken the contract by closing so therefore you shouldnt have to pay. My nursery has same line to left it as not rocking the boat. Hope open again soon after lockdown.

Thehop · 30/03/2020 21:56

We’re a private nursery and provide breakfast and after school to the school we’re next to

We’re asking nursery parents for 25% and charging school parents nothing.

There’s nothing to retain as we can’t give their places away!

DonnaDarko · 30/03/2020 21:59

I have no idea! They still haven't told us. Invoices usually arrive on the 8th but they expect payment before that. I won't be paying until I have a chance to negotiate. We're going to be spending nearly double amount we would usually on food due to having 3 adults WFH and a constantly hungry preschooler running around.

HolaWeenie · 30/03/2020 22:11

Ours aren't charging anything, I'm in Essex.

Beepboop22 · 30/03/2020 23:15

Mine weren't expecting anything but we are paying them still, not all of it but enough to help a bit, what we can afford after lost income basically. Although feeling a bit uneasy about it now knowing they'll get help from govt and we don't

Noodledoodledoo · 31/03/2020 00:06

I am lucky that our income hasn't been affected due to jobs. Our childminder asked for 50%, has only just started so doesn't qualify for any help from the government so we are paying full fees.

DontStandSoCloseToMe · 31/03/2020 03:36

Private nursery, paying nothing but no keyworker provision which we desperately need. Lots of people here work in a large local hospital, we're not the only ones affected, by charging at least a retainer maybe they could've provided keyworker care, we were happy to pay in full.

Letmegetthisrightasawoman · 31/03/2020 14:49

@DontStandSoCloseToMe exactly the same for our nursery! I'm technically a key worker but not at the hospital and fortunately we can manage without childcare for now, but I did wonder if they're allowed to just close up completely - schools most definitely aren't.

wonkylegs · 31/03/2020 14:57

Private nursery 25% fees to retain place, it's a hard one for us as DS starts school in September so I don't know at the moment if I'm retaining a place he's never going to be able to use.
I had a good start to the year with a lot of projects and fees so I can afford it for now but it's going to be tougher as time goes on as the impact for me is going to outlast the lockdown as people aren't going to have spare cash for projects.
