AIBU to ask for help to remember two old UK TV shows

Grateful for suggestions for the titles of the these two tv shows I can't remember the titles:

  1. children's TV, possibly 1970s. All technology stops. Possible spoiler - Merlin might have been a stone who when awakened has stopped all technology or electricity? A plane flying over from France loses power so this effect is just over the UK. When I Google, I keep getting 'Children of the Stones' which isn't the one I remember.

  2. A tv show, possibly on Channel 4 in the 1980s on Friday early evenings had a mechanic on a motorcycle with a daughter of a mafia chief being chased by the mob after she thinks she's killed her father, possibly? Lots of Elvis songs in the soundtrack. Most of the detail might be wrong.

Thank you.

The first one was 'The changes' back in the 1970s. I loved it! Not sure about the second one.

KnickersandGnomes · 25/03/2020 12:15

The first one sounds like The Changes to me too - it was terrifying!

Was it Anneka or Annika? Had Jesse Birdsall in it?

AlunWynsKnee · 25/03/2020 12:19

The second one that is.

I remember the elvis one. It was American. I loved that programme. No idea what is was though.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 25/03/2020 12:54

The books of the Changes are really good too. There are three iirc.

Zilla1 · 25/03/2020 13:18

Thank you, Sleeper and Knickers. I think it was the Changes so thanks very much. I might try and read the books.

Alun, I remember Annika (vaguely remember a sauna scene, worryingly) though I don't think that was the Elvis one I had in mind.

Mog, Thank you. I've never found anyone who remembers it which was troubling, given it was around the time of four channel UK TV. I can't remember the title, nor find a combination of google search terms that bring up a suitable link.

I remember it was american because they did an episode at the weeki wachee mermaids.any searches come up with an elvis miniseries though. Feeling it was called something like salt and pepper but not actually salt and pepper. Only one series which is why it was lost I guess. I think it was 1988 to 1992ish.

Shangrilalala · 25/03/2020 13:47

I loved The Changes. An excellent read and really appropriate for children to read right now. I wonder if they will be dated for younger readers?

SmallChickBilly · 25/03/2020 13:51

Was the second one Neat and Tidy?

Zilla1 · 25/03/2020 14:16

It might be Neat and Tidy/Adventures Beyond Belief. I'll try and look at some footage later if I can. Thank you and well done, Smallchick.

www.imdb.com/title/tt0092512/plotsummary?ref_=tt_ov_pl

ticks all the boxes. Sounds bizarre - wonder if it's watchable anywhere!
