Do you think my boss is putting profit over his employees?

I work for a company that manufactures certain ingredients to producers of desserts.

We still have not been provided with hand sanitizer despite the
numerous deliveries/visitors to the site. I work on reception.

He has not once given us any kind of guidance or even changed procedures in light of the Cvirus. He hasn't even mentioned the virus and we are expected to carry on as usual.

I am on immunosuppresent drugs which I have mentioned but it's been ignored. Someone returned from Spain two weeks ago and carried on at work as normal.

Nothing has changed, he and the other bosses don't care.

Do you have a union?

Desserts999 · 25/03/2020 10:59

No don't have a union. We don't get paid for our sickness either. Won't let us leave earlier even though it is quite than usual, obviously.

Could you call your local environmental health and raise a query (anon) about what the procedure needs to be. Maybe thay can have a call with him? Not sure what the process is, but he endangering his staff and his customers.

Desserts999 · 25/03/2020 11:59

I'm not sure. We are food industry so shocked that not provided with hand sanitizer.

Do they have sanitiser in the factory? They might be experiencing supply issues. Also in food industry and I know some sites are trying to make their own as they can't get any. If some available for factory then ask someone to decant some from the bulk dispensers for you.

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/03/2020 12:26

Most food factories have closed to all but essential visitors now

Bloke23 · 25/03/2020 12:46

At my work people are still stood shoulder to shoulder on production lines

userxx · 25/03/2020 12:49

We don't get paid for our sickness either.

He won't pay you SSP?

Desserts999 · 25/03/2020 15:34

Firstly they don't have hand sanitizer in the factory, apparently it's not allowed.

Well I'm not sick so have to go to work so SSP not relevant. I have underlying health issues.

The production staff are stood shoulder to shoulder too.

Of course it's allowed in a food factory, I am normally at a couple of different sites each week and plenty of them use it!
Are you a certificated site ( BRC, FSSC22000 etc.)? If so, Google their websites and lookup the email address for whistleblowing. You can do it anonymously.
If they are as slack as you say with precautions at the moment, their general hygiene standards probably aren't great either.

bridgetreilly · 25/03/2020 18:27

Well I'm not sick so have to go to work so SSP not relevant. I have underlying health issues.

If you're in the vulnerable high-risk group because of your health issues, you should be self-isolating and you are absolutely allowed to claim sick pay for that.

Madwomanuptheroad · 25/03/2020 19:18

I think it may be time to get a union in. Try to contact Unite to see if they can sign you up collectively and get recognition.

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/03/2020 21:51

GFSI updates have just become available. Sites MUST have an appropriate risk assessment and action plan in place for coronavirus.
If you are a GFSI site, and from your description of products produced, I can't believe you aren't, just report them.

Desserts999 · 25/03/2020 22:14

Weedsnseeds
Yes we are BRC certified.

They won't let me self isolate, they will if I have any symptoms of the virus.
