I just want to say i top am sick of seeing threads where people ask if the most stupid stuff is okay to do now we’re on lock down.
I feel really strongly about this and am really happy we are as I’m about to give birth during this really scary time.
We were due to pick up our pram and car seat from a local independent baby shop this weekend. Now the pram is absolutely not essential so i don’t care about that right now but we can not physically leave the hospital without a car seat. If the shop is unable to deliver the car seat to us my husband can pick it up by appointment, meaning there would be nobody else there.
Obviously, this is essential travel to pick it up isn’t it?
Please be nice to me I’m too pregnant and hormonal right now 😂😂😂

We drove home from hospital at 5am this Sunday, husband doing the obligatory 20mph with new baby and c-section wife.

Didn’t pass another car in 15 miles.

Didn’t realise husband had no lights on for 15 miles because of this 🙈

Sounds like it's all resolved. Good luck with everything, nice to have some happy news at this time Flowers

YeahWhatevver · 24/03/2020 06:35

borrow a car seat for the hospital trip home.

They have assured me they won’t fully close for now

I just don't understand how people can be misunderstanding the new message. What makes this shop so special that it's staff need to be traveling to work.

STAY AT HOME!

Dreamsofasundayroast · 24/03/2020 06:40

excited if you can get the pram delivered I would. I think I would have managed fine without it for first few weeks but after that DC2 did most of his napping in the pram, often in the garden.

A new little baby is very exciting. Good luck Flowers

How can she borrow a car seat FFS when when she's not supposed to see anyone? And it will be covered in god knows what. At least a brand new one will be boxed and not touched for several weeks.

Car seats are a legal requirement therefore an essential. Calm down, people are acting like it's the end of the world! Other countries are in the same situation without half as much wild speculation and accusations being thrown around.

excitedforbaby9 · 24/03/2020 06:44

Yes there is nobody i can borrow one from, unfortunately it’s something essential that we need. As I’ve said I’ve been home for weeks already. Also I’m not misunderstanding the new rules, i am sticking to them. The owner of the shop messaged me straight away last night and assured they would be staying ‘open’ just to make sure everyone due soon gets their car seats as it is illegal to travel without them and people need to get home from the hospital.

Lynda07, greetings from 2020, which year in the 1970’s are you posting from?

excitedforbaby9 · 24/03/2020 06:46

I imagine once she has dropped off the car seats outside peoples doors to those who need them then they will be shut down, hence why we won’t get them pram (which we’re not bothered about, there’s bigger issues here!)

Of course it’s fine to collect the car seat, you need a car seat, your person to person interaction will be minimal

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 24/03/2020 06:50

Why can't you leave the hospital without a car seat? You can sit in the back holding the baby.

You absolutely can not sit in the back holding the baby.

I just don't understand how people can be misunderstanding the new message. What makes this shop so special that it's staff need to be traveling to work.

What makes it so special? That it has safety equipment, without which, people can not travel with their baby in the car.

The baby will have to travel in a car, home from hospital.

Or do you think OP, her husband and newborn, will be better getting a bus?

It's quite clear why they need to fulfill their orders.

They cant borrow one. It's not recommended AND unhygienic AND someone would have to drop it off.

Ordering one from Amazon (for example) will end up with someone having to do the same....deliver it.

Also for anyone else who is about to come and shout at me to stay home, which i have stated i 100% agree with!!! I just have to tell you that due to a high risk and complicated pregnancy i have been on modified bedrest for the past 10 weeks and haven’t been our apart from appointments. A little self isolation for an extra however many weeks isn’t going to bother me 🤣
