To collect nappies from parents?

Shortage of nappies as most people know. My newborn is going through 10 a day and I have approx 2 days worth left at home. My mum has bought me 2 jumbo packs at hers (45min drive away). I won't be going inside her house, she'll leave them outside and I'll pick them up then drive straight home.
I'd much rather do this than go back to a supermarket and trawl the aisles for a measley pack of 22 that will only last a couple of days.

DH is not sure - questions whether this is already breaking the rules!

imo I am picking up essential items.

I agree with you

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 23/03/2020 23:13

That's fine. Your car counts as your house and you will be staying two metres from anyone. Go and get the nappies. It's an essential journey.

redwinefine · 23/03/2020 23:16

You're completely just picking up essential items. That's fine, especially if your mum is leaving them outside.

44PumpLane · 23/03/2020 23:16

This is an appropriate interpretation of "do not leave the home other than for essentials"

As long as you get your mother to leave them outside this is exactly what you should do rather than trail multiple shops hoping to find some.

10 a day? Are they soaked through or pooh - if not, don't worry about changing them (not the main question, I know xxx)

TitianaTitsling · 23/03/2020 23:18

Agree with all above, at least this way you and DC can remain in car and literally swing by pavement, open door and pick up?

Dennisreynoldsduster · 23/03/2020 23:20

You should look up the lictin reusable kit on amazon OP it’s brilliant
I was adamant I would try reusables but it’s been a life saver with the shortage and nowhere near as messy as I thought it would be

alliejay81 · 23/03/2020 23:29

Yes, you'll be fine with this. My sis is heavily pregnant and due for a ELCS. At some point she's going to have to see my mum and dad (under 70) as they will need to babysit her toddler whilst she and her husband go to the hospital. It's a loose interpretation of the guidance but our police force are used to showing common sense and latitude as appropriate. Good luck OP, it's a tough time to have a newborn).

@LolaLollypop yes this is okay but I have a 4 month old and she wasn’t going through this many. In fact “normal” is 5 to 6 a day. And you should always use cream as a barrier to avoid nappy rash anyway.

LiquoricePickle · 24/03/2020 01:16

Of course that's fine. It's obviously better than going to the supermarket.
