What to do for daughter's 18th?

It's in a month, but we'll almost certainly still be under lockdown if we judge by Italy.

Family was meant to visit from abroad, she'd waited 5 years for it (great auntie always said she'd come for the 18th because she hates air travel) but obviously they can't anymore. She also planned a day in London with friends but that's ruled out.

I'm also worried that packages may not arrive in time but she's at a loss as to what she wants so I'm concerned that she'll be left with a few useless knick-knacks and nothing nice to do on her 18th...

Ideas on brightening the day?

It was my sons 18th today - he understood and we survived it Cake

Little makeover in the house. Jammies. Good at any age! Plus surely you have a bottle of vodka or white wine somewhere right?

littlemyyy · 23/03/2020 23:09

@MadameBee - That's good to hear! She's being very understanding too, I'm a bit sad for all the kids having their 'big' birthdays during all this :(

Drink champagne and toast that you're alive. Seriously what else can you do right now.

maddening · 23/03/2020 23:12

Well when we are out of lockdown then you can hold a party - and it will more likely be fantastic weather then too.

MadameBee · 23/03/2020 23:12

Yeah it’s really shit tbh.

We all have him money as he wants a laptop for Uni (A levels cancelled).

I went to the supermarket and just wrapped up a load of daft stuff for him like a melon, shaving balm, some lovely hair stuff, French fancies little vodkas etc.

It was fine. Then there was “the announcement” but we expected it anyway. My other two kids cake round (luckily as now won’t see them for three weeks).

It's my birthday this Thursday. Here's what I'm going to do: bake my own cake, have a barbequeue with family (I'm aware not everyone can do this, but maybe make a pizza from scratch?).

I'd just try to keep busy inside the house so it doesn't feel more of the same. What's her favourite food? Can you make it? Watch favourite movie/TV show, maybe get take out... just a break from routine, really? Of course it doesn't compare to what would happen before, but it can still be nice.

MadameBee · 23/03/2020 23:14

Came round!

I also made him a really nice cake, amazing ideas on Pinterest?

Outing - but this

It’s just a chocolate sandwich cake underneath and butter icing all over it which I stuck the fingers to and held together by the ribbon.

Its my DS 16th birthday tomorrow. We will have to keep it low key. He has a few hobbies to keep him interested, luckily we'd already bought his presents. Its also my youngest DS and my mum's birthday in April. We've just said we will make the best of it and have a family gathering once this is all over, whenever that may be.

if You can, bake a nice cake and just have a lovely close celebration.
Sad to say, there’s not much more than you can do for now. She will understand and maybe have a belated family celebration later.

DdraigGoch · 23/03/2020 23:28

Get pissed. It's what most people do on their 18th.
