AIBU to think we still might move house on Friday?

We are supposedly moving house on Friday. We are at the top of the chain and going into rented accommodation for now as our purchase isn’t ready to complete yet.
Our removers are booked for Thursday but I’m terrified that BJ is about to announce a lockdown which would mean we can’t move. Any thoughts?

I’m meant to move Friday too into a rented I’m guessing I can’t now ?! I’m devastated as I’m overcrowded at the moment and have waited ages for this.

I’m meant to be moving on the first too, I’m currently living with my ex and it’s fast becoming hell, I intend to go with a suitcase of the essentials if they’ll still have me, already been isolating and sure I’m not sick, as have my flat mates to be, so very little risk there and I’m happy to hide in my room for the remaining fortnight.

Work that cannot be done from home is still permitted. So your movers are allowed to move you. Presumably you are allowed to go with your stuff...

Have you got a date set for when you will move into your bought house? Is it a new build?

AlexaCrowe · 24/03/2020 00:38

So many people on Twitter are asking this too - I know because I’m waiting for a definite date I can move from one rental property to another (having an issue with clarification of notice dates) and no idea what to do.

We are at the top of a chain of three. Moving out of this house and temporarily into an empty holiday let (we’re in Cornwall) for 6 weeks whilst we wait to complete on the one we’ve bought. Removers are booked for Thursday. I guess it will be down to whether they’ll still move us. The problem is, we need all three houses in the chain to be able to move.
I know that in relation to people losing loved ones, this is not important, but if it doesn’t go ahead it will be the loss of money, time, energy and my hopes and dreams.
@Stuckfornow - in your situation, I’d be putting some cases in the car and going.

Why are you moving out without a completion date ? Has that been set on your purchase?

OnlyaMan · 24/03/2020 21:36

If you are committed to move on a certain date...…...….well just do it. Moving does not involve meeting with large groups of people in a public place. The last time I moved house, I interacted with three people.
Your movers are like likely to be glad of the work, and you are all likely to be OK.

AlexaCrowe · 24/03/2020 21:41

@OnlyaMan - I’ll probably be tracked down and beheaded in a mi ute but that’s what I’m thinking.

I can leave my house unlocked and stand outside while the removals people (2) move everything to the van and then lock up. Do the same in reverse the other end. I’m moving two streets away and contract is signed and keys are in a lockbox. Pay removals via PayPal rather than cash.

Not sure what else to do really.

Chickoletta · 28/03/2020 17:12

In case anyone’s still interested, we did manage to move house yesterday. It was an absolute bloody nightmare, but we did it.
Removers were forced to cancel by their governing body so we did it all ourselves with a big van (4 bed house with a baby grand piano!!). Some of the solicitors in the chain went completely incommunicado for a couple of days beforehand and we completed a couple of hours before the government announced that they would not allow any future completions! I’ve never been so stressed out in my life but we got there in the end.
