Dh and I were booked to stay in a spa hotel from Friday for a couple of nights.
So last Wednesday I phoned them to ask whether I could transfer the booking to later in the year, as obviously we would be ill-advised to go as intended.
I asked the question perfectly pleasantly and the guy at the hotel just said No.
I said that we'd been looking forward to it and were happy to take any date from September that would suit them.
His reply? "We don't do that".
I gave up.
Bearing in mind it had been all paid for in advance (through a well known company), wibu to leave a review on their website or TripAdvisor?

YANBU to leave a truthful review.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 23/03/2020 13:13

That's pretty shit of them but perhaps they aren't even sure if they will be open by the end of the year. Also, they won't be able to fit everyone in.

Sonichu · 23/03/2020 13:13

I assume you can't just get a refund and rebook later then?

Cosmos45 · 23/03/2020 13:15

You might as well not bother or waste your time because they are unlikely to be still open and in business in a few weeks.

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/03/2020 13:17

Are they refusing to refund you? They might not even be open in September at this rate let alone still going so I can see why they wouldn't want to cause themselves further issues until there is more info. The staff member is probably well aware he is about to lose his job.

It's not unreasonable as such OP if it's true what you write but if it's just a tit for that thing then I can't see much point. It's not like anyone is going to be reading your review and doing much with it, nobody can book with them anyway. Personally i's just be privately disappointed but focus on other things right now.

Things have changed a lot since last week, I'd ring again and ask for the manager.

plunkplunkfizz · 23/03/2020 13:36

Is it not covered by travel insurance?

BurtonHouse · 23/03/2020 16:35

The man I spoke to at the hotel was the manager, so there's no joy to be had there, and I've tried phoning insurance company but gave up after hanging on for 20 minutes.
It's not even so much the money (nearly £300) just the stonewalling and refusal to engage on any level.
I've learned that I won't be booking through the 'undercover gettaway' company again.

I agree that you should call again - last Wednesday was a long time ago in terms of government advice and if they were planning to stay open then (as I presume they were since they wouldn’t move the booking) I doubt they are now.

aupresdemonarbre · 23/03/2020 19:58

Also I think it makes a huge difference that you paid through a third party booking site - this will limit the hotel’s options surely?
