How much work are you getting done WFH?

PlomBear · 23/03/2020 11:18

I’m currently watching This Morning in my PJs. DH is “WFH” playing a computer game.

The organisation we work for is struggling with capacity, we’ve been told to spend only limited amounts of time online to allow others to get on.

DS 4, is playing with Birdie Friend.

Next up: Good Karma Hospital and Belgravia

I work from home usually anyway but finding it very hard to stay motivated as no one wants to buy anything or even talk about buying anything.

I am finding having a home office I can shut the door on with my own tv, sonos speaker and kettle very luxurious however with two teenage sons and a husband also at home Hmm

cologne4711 · 23/03/2020 11:22

I work from home anyway but like blossom I am finding it quite hard to stay motivated.

Reginabambina · 23/03/2020 11:22

Fuck all. What are Birdie Friend’s thoughts on all this by the way?

Vectura · 23/03/2020 11:23

I’m normally at about it 60-70% capacity at work, never too busy and plenty to spread out throughout the day.

The whole of last week I was wfh and it’s been INSANELY busy, which would be fine at a proper desk but is a massive ball ache on my laptop!

I MISS THE OFFICE

myself2020 · 23/03/2020 11:23

Until friday - loads. to day so-so. i work i 1 h bursts, it shoud be ok (plus homeschool 7 year old and entertain 3 year old)

GetTheSprinkles · 23/03/2020 11:25

Has 20 mins on laptop this morning but 4mo is currently napping on top of me!

IvinghoeBeacon · 23/03/2020 11:25

Workload high (I work in an area where a lot of work has been created by Coronavirus) but productivity low due to VPN constantly kicking me out.

roarfeckingroar · 23/03/2020 11:26

BF foresaw all this.

foodandwine89 · 23/03/2020 11:26

Insanely busy here and very efficient...no more coffee chats etc and I actually get a lot more stuff done. I work in a place with A LOT of facetime and i find wfh actually allows me to have a life while also working very hard

Needallthesleep · 23/03/2020 11:26

Same as above. Super busy up until Friday. Now very very quiet and not doing much. The company that I work for has been hit massively, so I’m fully expecting to the furloughed next week. Have a toddler at home as well who is going crazy with not leaving the house or seeing her friends.

Sn0tnose · 23/03/2020 11:28

I’ve mastered the ‘at home’ bit. It’s the working bit I’m currently struggling with.

Stickybeaksid · 23/03/2020 11:28

Watching a bit of DR Phil and doing fuck all this morning. I have switched off. This is my third week in the house. I haven’t spoken to most of my team in real life for weeks. I am struggling today but eye on the prize. It’s for the greater good.

Ivegotnothing · 23/03/2020 11:29

I wfh normally...it does seem to be a bit quieter though. Less staff around with child care, etc. and my external customers have the same issues, so it’s generating a bit less work.

Billyeyelash · 23/03/2020 11:30

I frequently work from home but with primary school and secondary school children at home it's been an interesting morning. I cannot get into anything in depth without a shout for assistance. I'll have to work tonight.

Youngest is flying through the work. We were on 1st break by 9. 20am.

Oldest struggling with connectivity on the online sites as so many people on them. He's annoyed. So he's on a break now watching Only Fools and Horses. He says it's a historic look at social class.

lastqueenofscotland · 23/03/2020 11:31

I’ve been doing loads but equally when I’m at work I’m not flat out all the time so I’ve been giving myself a few minutes here and there to browse the internet.

MrsChoc · 23/03/2020 11:33

Pretty busy here, frequent Skype calls.
Juggling it with two kids so started at 6am to get a few hours in before DH went to work. Now having a couple of hours with the kids then when the smallest goes down for a nap I’ll get back to work while the oldest does some school work/screen time as needed.
Helps that work are really flexible in terms of hours, and that I do 6hr days so it’s easier to flex it throughout the day. It works, but I’m going to be exhausted after a couple of weeks of this!

TheBeesKnee · 23/03/2020 11:35

Not much. VPN issues, piss taking colleague calling in sick every other day and sheer loneliness stretching out ahead of me. Really hard to care about writing a report or putting together some slides.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 23/03/2020 11:37

Dh has been a busy bee all morning making and receiving phone calls to and from customers. He hasn't stopped.

I am going through my children's school work packs and helping them do their work. The attitude they're showing me now just serves to remind me why I happily teach other people's children and not my own!

VenusOfWillendorf · 23/03/2020 11:51

I'm starting week 2 of mandatory working from home today.
I'm finding it better this morning, I started at 8, and just stopped now for lunch, and have got quite a lot done.

I found last week quite difficult - hard to concentrate, easily distracted in particular by the kettle and the news. This morning has been much better, I have found not listening to or looking at news (and graphs of infection rates in particular!) helps - but it was hard not to look, particularly last week when it was all so new.

I think (with my vast experience of one one week!), the key is getting into a routine. Especially getting up and dressed and being ready to work when I sit at the desk - and not turning on my laptop while still in my PJs, glancing through emails, having some toast, answering a few e-mails, heading off to get showered etc.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 23/03/2020 11:57

everyone has calmed down a bit with zoom meetings this week, so fairly good.
Probably taking more breaks, and working a bit longer to compensate.
Work kitted everyone out with large monitors, full size keyboards; would have been a nightmare on my tiny work laptop.
My cat was delighted to have me home at first - I think I've outstayed my welcome, I'm taking up her space.

HoldMyLobster · 23/03/2020 12:51

I've been doing a normal amount of work, but I wfh anyway. I did wonder if my biggest client's VPN would cope when they switched about 8,000 people to work from home last week, but it's been fine.

DH has been working far harder than usual - trying to keep the business he works for from going completely under.

RunningKatie · 23/03/2020 13:26

Youngest DC tells me I'm a terrible teacher.
The lunchtime walk/scoot for fresh air was poorly received.
I am supposed to be working mornings, I'm going to have to rethink this before I eat all my emergency chocolate stash.

NotNegan · 23/03/2020 13:41

Absolutely nothing.

On an unrelated note #teamrafael

EarringsandLipstick · 23/03/2020 14:17

Why are so many of you doing absolutely nothing? Surely your employer knows what you are able to do from home? If you are having connectivity issues, is there not other work you can do? Professional reading etc (I mean I don't know everyone's jobs but I am really surprised by the number of people here saying cheerfully they are doing nothing or happily watching TV!)

For me, I am looking after 3 children while working, as I have been doing for the past week. I'm finding it exhausting to be honest. But coping. I manage a team of 7 in a public sector role, in a university, so plenty of online meetings, as well as projects to work on.

I've been working since 6, stopped to get kids up, dressed, breakfasted and doing their own work and then worked straight through since 9. Stopped now for lunch and a break to manage feral children and I'll log back on in a while.

The hardest bit is the kids going a bit loopers as they realise I am not really supervising them when working. I think it's really crap if you can do work, not to do your best to do it.

TWD89 · 23/03/2020 14:23

@Stickybeaksid

Are you in the US? I’m in the UK and I really miss Dr Phil Grin haven’t found anywhere here you can watch it.

Re WFH, usually I’m super productive - I WFH 50% of the week anyway.

Today so far I’ve answered one phone call and nothing else has happened. I have zero work but at least the kids have been educated! (Ish)
