How much work are you getting done WFH?

I’m currently watching This Morning in my PJs. DH is “WFH” playing a computer game.

The organisation we work for is struggling with capacity, we’ve been told to spend only limited amounts of time online to allow others to get on.

DS 4, is playing with Birdie Friend.

Next up: Good Karma Hospital and Belgravia

Hi EmpressMcSchnozzle! Thanks!

Not much has been happening here recently. Birdie Friend apparently taught DS to sing Ring a Ring o’ Rosies which is apparently about the plague. DS is currently singing it whilst playing with his soft toys.

I do have a knack for predicting things though!

Am currently panicking. My employee has got us on a rota and we're wfh most the week. The only issue is you need a special USB to be able to connect to home WiFi, my special USB has ran out and needs replacing. There's not much I can do without the special USB, which has been sent in the post but how long it takes to arrive is anyone's guess. Am in tomorrow and gave a plan of action to suggest - either borrowing a USB stick or just coming in each day until my new one arrives. I don't like not knowing what I'm doing anf my anxiety is getting on top of me.

Suchan1d10t · 23/03/2020 18:28

@PlomBear I presume you are referring to the birdy friend? I remember when you first posted, sitting up way too late freaking myself out!

Bet he knew though... (whispers) he knew

TerrorWig · 23/03/2020 18:31

I work in change for a bank.

I’m VERY busy. All hands of deck to alleviate the 3 hour wait times.

Please don’t call unless you really really need to!

GreyGardens88 · 23/03/2020 18:33

Going well, though work is quiet. I'm probably more motivated as to we have to write down what we're doing through the day as work don't trust us

blueshoes · 23/03/2020 18:38

I am working hard from home, busy but expecting it to slow down at some point. I will then use this time to do the stuff I never get to do but so desperately need to: streamline our procedures so that my life will be easier when things come back if my job is still there. Never knew I had to wait for a global pandemic to get some space to do this.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 23/03/2020 18:39

A decent amount though that is hampered significantly by the toddler !!!

MindatWork · 23/03/2020 18:40

Got my first day working from home with 16-month old DD tomorrow. DH also working from home, no idea how we’re going to manage as we both need to be on conference calls etc. I manage external comms for my org so huge amount of pressure on me to get messaging right at the moment.

We don’t have a child friendly garden so no outside space and the house is constantly trashed already from all 3 of us being under each other’s feet. So jealous of everyone binge watching Netflix 😩

Pishposhpashy · 23/03/2020 18:45

Bog all, frankly.

Dk20 · 23/03/2020 18:51

I've always worked from home one or two days a week in the last year.
Two weeks ago I was sent home to wfh for the foreseeable. At first I really struggled as the system struggled to keep up with the amount of people trying to log in at one or trying to use the conference call dial ins at the one time.
Haven't had a lunch break in the last 2 weeks as I'm trying to make up time I've lost from the system lagging and not being able to print, it really does make some jobs so much slower.
But today finally I've had a better day. I think I've figured the best way to avoid the queues - I log in at least 15 mins earlier in the morning and dial in for calls 5 mins earlier to avoid the traffic.
Fingers crossed for the rest of the week.

coronafused · 23/03/2020 18:56

I work from home anyway and usually am very productive. Not so much now the kids are at home, I'm a single mum and usually rely on my mum for help with the kids in hols etc but for obvious reasons we're staying clear of her for the foreseeable future! I didn't sit down to do any work until 4pm today 🤦🏼‍♀️

Marieo · 23/03/2020 19:00

Nice spending of tax payers money!

theemmadilemma · 23/03/2020 19:03

I always work from home. But it's annoying having my Partner here. It's changed my routine and it's annoying.

Observations on my Partner: He probably spends a large amount of time at work talking to people about annoying work stuff or non work stuff. He also worked later than he usually would at the office. That's one that happens all the time to people wfh.

Polowithoutahole · 23/03/2020 19:06

I am really struggling. Single parent with one DC. Trying to juggle her school work which has been given a strict timetable and my FT job, which currently requires a huge amount of attention as I'm being asked to make some big decisions on our Corona response at a senior level (my boss is on sick leave for at least 12 weeks so it's just me, theres nobody else in the team and I'm not a senior member of staff myself). I've been tearing my hair out for several weeks working alone and now I'm having to work from home as well as be a teacher my stress levels are pretty high. I'm not on the key worker list so nothing I can do. This isn't sustainable long term.

The only saving grace is we are currently symptom free.

Pishposhpashy · 23/03/2020 19:09

Marieo

Who are you talking to Confused

SueEllenMishke · 23/03/2020 19:14

I WFH regularly but it's been harder today with DH and DS also at home. I managed quite a bit and my work have been really flexible and understanding. I know I'm lucky though

FairyBunnyAgain · 23/03/2020 19:17

I cleared my small tasks on Friday, and today have tried to work out who is working where but as the management were so inept at sorting out what we were doing it is all a bit hit and miss. I still haven't had answers from some colleagues and know from others that have spoken to the team that have to be onsite it is chaos
It's now 4pm and I have done 8 hours no breaks as currently have workmen in finishing a job before lockdown so I have cleared another project.
Tomorrow I expect to work in 2 hour bursts over a longer period as I hate sitting down for long periods and I know it is not good for my physical health.

TotesGodsWill · 23/03/2020 19:20

Loads but then I live on my own! I get far more interruptions in the office than I do at home. And work is crazy busy at the moment

bananafish · 23/03/2020 19:38

First day of new job, WFH - inductions/meetings via Skype, plus first day of children at home and working out school schedule. DH still has to travel to office...
...I am knackered.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 23/03/2020 20:03

I'm getting so bloody much done. No distractions. But it is boring.

YeahWhatevver · 23/03/2020 20:06

Managing quite high levels of productivity here, it won't last

Im working through my to do list but conscious that the pipeline of work isn't going to get me to 12 weeks.

Soosiesoo · 23/03/2020 20:16

About 2 hours worth juggling a 3 year old and 7 year old, who seemingly can't entertain themselves for a second!!

ConfusedConfused

FenellaVelour · 23/03/2020 21:32

What are Birdie Friend’s thoughts on all this by the way?

Probably told you so

I got a lot done today, worked later than usual. I think it’ll be peaks and troughs though.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 23/03/2020 22:06

Joy - we've discovered virtual backgrounds for zoom meetings!

  • we'd got bored o everyone's home office/dining room!
