New account as I’m well known on the board.
I had a tradie come and do two plastering jobs. He’s Which and Google reviews recommended. There was a problem with the plaster after I painted the area. He came back but didn’t really fix it. Said the area was too cold (so why not put on the heating) etc. Now he’s saying it was damp. I’ve tried my hardest on forums to find out the problem but they are all saying it’s his plastering.
However today all the plaster had cracked. I lost my temper and messaged him saying why has he done a crap job. I asked for some money back - he offered £50 (I paid him £750). So I said I would write reviews to let people know.
I don’t think he was a good trades person due to what he was saying (eg he said I can get thick paint to cover a bumpy wall). Stupid me, but first house etc.
Anyway he offered me £500 to not write a review. So obviously I accepted. He’s now said he only has £200 he had to borrow and I will have to wait for the rest. I don’t know if it’s true but he also did a bad job, so why offer so much. Surely it’s just a lie?
Anyway am I being unreasonable for holding him to account for it all? He offered it. It will cost me the same amount to rectify.
