Anyone else love a cool bedroom?

I can't sleep with any heating on. I love a cosy bed, thick cotton jammies and a deep snuggle. But it doesn't work if I am in a warm room. Anyone feel the same?
I grew up in a house with no central heating, I remember scraping ice off the inside of my bedroom window. But we had piles of quilts, woollen blankets and never cold, apart from the tips of our noses.
Even now as I am snuggling down- outside temperature is 3 degrees, I have my window open and no heating on.
Am I the odd one?

Our house is cool (heating is never above 18°C and is usually more like 15°C overnight) but I do like to be warm in bed. We never have the windows open at night and I like to wrap myself up in my duvet like a caterpillar in a cocoon. I hate it when dh gets into bed or moves and lets the cold air in!

Windyatthebeach · 22/03/2020 22:27

Our old sash window is jammed open about a foot. Last winter we watched TV in bed with snow coming in!!
Bedroom is always FREEZING!!

I might have to try this to see what all the fuss is about.
I sleep with the heating on 23°, 3 hot water bottles and a thick duvet. Oh and 3 dogs. Blush

Fizzypoo · 22/03/2020 22:30

I like a warm bed and a cold bedroom and the cold side of the pillow.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 22/03/2020 22:45

I can't sleep if there isn't a window open and the heating absolutely has to be off - hate warm sleeping condition but love the cool air around my face contrasted with the warmth under the duvet when I'm sleeping.
My other half once complained in the middle of the night that it was snowing outside and there seemed to be a bit of a snowdrift building up on the bed and was now a good time to shut the window? I grudgingly agreed.

sleepingpup · 22/03/2020 22:49

Bedroom window always open.
Plus Sheepskin hot water bottle.

Warm bed, cold room = fabulous!

We say Cold nose, warm toes.

SconeRhymesWithTune · 22/03/2020 22:50

I like the room cool, but not cold. But definitely not warm.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/03/2020 22:52

Me too

Often have the window open even in winter

My nose is always cold my winter duvet is so cosy

I don’t wear pj’s I get too hot

Chesntoots · 22/03/2020 22:54

Me too!

I get headache and stuffed nose if the window is shut or I am too warm and wake up feeling crap.

GalleyHead · 22/03/2020 23:08

When I spent a winter living in the Alps and at night it sometimes got down to minus 17, I still had the window open. My preference is for a cold bedroom with lots of bedclothes AND lots of fresh air.

QuestionableMouse · 22/03/2020 23:11

Oh hell yes!

Windows open, cool room but warm in bed. Does make getting up a bit tricky sometimes!

Borisssstwat · 22/03/2020 23:13

Yes! I'm another that likes a cold room, windows wide open whatever the weather. Always sleep naked though and must have pure cotton bed linen. Heavenly!

TheWordmeister · 22/03/2020 23:13

We're the same in that we hate the heating on in our room and have the window open all year round.

If I stay at friends' or in a hotel and there is heating on, it makes me feel atrocious.

We also have only a thin duvet and both sleep naked.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/03/2020 23:17

I live a cold room at night too, but can't face the cold when I have to gef uo in the morning. So don't keep it too cold. It's best when dp has to get up and hour before me and he can shut the window and put the heating on for me getting up.

Holdencaulfieldshomeboy · 23/03/2020 00:10

I love it too. Window always open unless the wind is about to rip it off its hinges. Fan on every night.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 23/03/2020 00:49

I grew up somewhere cold with heavy frosts that made the grass crunchy with ice and you could make dragon breath while laying in bed.
Now I live somewhere that doesn’t really get properly cold in winter but you feel it because everything is built to keep cool in summer.

I miss the cold.

PerpendicularVincent · 23/03/2020 00:55

I always have the bedroom window open even in winter, and far prefer a cool room, no heating & a hot water bottle instead.

It seems much cosier Smile

SewItGoes · 23/03/2020 01:04

I hate sleeping in a hot room. It's impossible to get a good night's sleep above a certain temperature. Waking up hot and sweaty in the middle of the night is miserable.

My husband is colder-natured than I am, but fortunately he's happy to have the windows open and pile more blankets on his side of the bed.

QuinionsRainbow · 24/03/2020 21:30

Windows open all the year round here, except possibly at the height of the hay-fever season, summer-weight duvet throughout BST and generally for a couple of extra weeks either side, cotton bed-linen and birthday suits. Bliss!

Bellad19 · 25/03/2020 01:00

I’m exactly the same! Drives my husband mad! Have my 15tog duvet and a blanket ontop but have to have the window open even on the coldest winter night! Nothing cosier than that!

Lesat · 25/03/2020 01:06

No. I grew up the same and have the rad off in my bedroom window open and a really cosy bed with blankets. I cant sleep if its stuffy and hate hot summer nights.

NaePies · 25/03/2020 01:25

yup! Cold room is the only way I can sleep well

We were on holiday in Europe in July, checked into hotel, opened window for air and set off to pub for the night. When we got back the room was absolutely crawling with bugs

Hotel manager was not too pleased when he had to come up with a cleaner who henry hoovered the lot away Blush

Got a big lecture about leaving windows open and the light on and how this attracted them Blush

All I could do was apologise and pretend I am not from the West Coast of fucking Scotland Confused

Seriously should have known better

Foghead · 25/03/2020 01:32

I love the window open but dh hates it. Normally he closes it but sometimes he doesn’t realise and I have the best sleep on those nights.
The other week he got up because he got so cold and shut the window muttering that I should just go and sleep in the garden.

echt · 25/03/2020 03:21

I love a cool bedroom, and living in Melbourne in a house with a metal roof, it isn't easy in summer and autumn. I draw the curtains, leaving only the screen door exposed to let the cool night air in. Bedroom door left open to let air circulate. Lovely.

PieceOfMaria · 25/03/2020 03:43

I’m exactly the same. I hate hot bedrooms with a vengeance. If the heating comes onto high or too early for me I wake up feeling stuffed up and awful.
