To ask if you’ve had a TV repaired for smoke damage?

Went and bought a new tv today, put it in exactly the same place as the old one always sat. A good 30 cm below the TV I have a candle that was lit for a couple of minutes.
Somehow the heat from the candle has got up into the TV and left a yellow flame shaped mark on the screen. TV is still watchable but it’s very obvious right in the corner.
Please tell me this is fixable! Otherwise that’s £600 down the drain Blush

Could you claim on the house insurance? We had a house fire and they replaced all the TVs saying that even if they seem fine smoke damage can cause them to rust later on.

FizzyPink · 22/03/2020 20:39

No I’ve checked and it’s not covered unfortunately. Just so bloody annoyed at myself but I’ve had that candle there ages and it never did anything to the previous tv

Hi there, @FaithInfinity - we've moved this over to AIBU, as requested. Sorry to hear about your tv and we hope you get it sorted.

We melted our tv with the same thing🤣 couldn’t get it fixed so we just ignore it and watch around the stain🤣

FizzyPink · 22/03/2020 23:42

Oh god that’s not what I wanted to hear 😂 I did suggest we just put up with it but DP wasn’t happy!

Bring it back to the store and say it’s burnt itself? Agh, am a bad person?

FizzyPink · 23/03/2020 00:16

I’m actually quite tempted as we only bought it today to say it was already like that but was worried they’d know I was lying and call me out on it Blush
I’d be more than happy to pay for it to be fixed but sounds like that might not be possible

You won’t be able to get it fixed. Do you have any add on for your home insurance such as accidental breakage?

I would try and bring it back, what shop?

Burnbabyburn1 · 23/03/2020 00:23

I lie, I wouldn’t bring it back but I would spiral into depression. I’m not joking.

FizzyPink · 25/03/2020 21:23

I took it back Blush shop was so crazy due to them having very limited and incompetent staff plus everyone wanting to shop before the lockdown so eventually after a very long wait they just swapped it for a new one. DP is extremely pleased Smile
