Despite all the bleak news at the minute, I was touched by her thoughtfulness.

As some of you might have read elsewhere, I am currently under lockdown in Spain. DD messaged to say, “iI know I can’t send you flowers this year, so I wracked my brain to think what you would like”.

It turns out that in my name she has paid for a “settling in” pack for a woman’s first night at a DV session, together with a session with an advocate to explain all her rights, benefits etc.

I didn’t even know this was possible, but think it needs wider publicity. Horribly there are going to be more women needing refuge places when all of this is over.

MatildaTheCat · 22/03/2020 13:54

That’s lovely. My DS took me for a lovely walk in the woods with the dog and then bought me a coffee and six eggs. Smile

truthisarevolutionaryact · 22/03/2020 13:55

What a wonderful daughter you have OP. Smile

BikeRunSki · 22/03/2020 13:56

Your dd is admirable @Hopeisnotastrategy. I hope you were washed with pride at this gesture - that would be an amazing present (the pride, as well as the DV stuff).

EvilHerbivore · 22/03/2020 13:56

As a worker who delivers those, please thank your daughter and tell her what a difference she'll have made

TweenageAngst · 22/03/2020 13:57

My DS works a weekend supermarket job. I got 6 eggs (he bought) and a bunch of flowers courtesy of his work. Best present ever.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 22/03/2020 13:57

That's lovely!

LolaLollypop · 22/03/2020 13:58

I got a lovely box of chocolates (DH had a good delivery yesterday) and a Christmas card originally made my DD in nursery re-purposed as a mother's day card Grin (the card DH ordered didn't arrive).

I've had a lovely breakfast cooked. Attempted a bit of baking with my DD and now laying bed after feeding newborn DS.

Wish Facebook didn't keep sending me reminders about drinking wine with my own mum in the pub last year though! Wish I could be with her today too Sad

Ishoos · 22/03/2020 13:58

What a lovely thought. Could you link to how we do this? X

Ohtherewearethen · 22/03/2020 13:59

Oh that is just marvellous! You're right that these things deserve better publicity, I for one didn't know about them. What a lovely thing your daughter has done.

Ponoka7 · 22/03/2020 14:07

These packs have been advertised over FB, they are a really good idea.

I picked a designer backpack in January, as a combined present from my DD's because of trips we had planned and plans i had with my GC. I'm in the vulnerable group, so I'm not seeing anyone today, except for the DD that I live with.

I cheered myself up with a vase small enough to fit on my coffee table and pink and yellow tulips. I've had a ridiculous amount of chocolate and it was like Christmas yesterday when i found a tin of custard. I'm having sponge cake, bananas and custard later.

violetgrey · 22/03/2020 14:09

That’s amazing, your daughter is a credit to you. Happy Mother’s Day!

Hopeisnotastrategy · 22/03/2020 14:17

Thank you, I am very proud of her!

I have asked her and she said it was a charity called refugeforwomen.org. I imagine other charities will also offer similar.

Sorry OP just realised you weren't starting a thread about what we got for mothers day ConfusedGrin. I'm a bit sleep deprived atm!!

Your daughters idea was lovely Flowers

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/03/2020 14:36

I had a 2 hour skype chat with my DD this morning. She and her DP were supposed to be visiting this weekend but due to staff shortages they are now working their weekend off. So the card has been posted and the present will arrive when they do because "it's too big to post".

trappedsincesundaymorn · 22/03/2020 14:37

Posted too soon. Your daughter sounds lovely OP. Top parenting. Grin

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 22/03/2020 14:38

As someone who received this I want to thank your wonderful daughter from the bottom of my heart.

I will never forget the bath that I had with the bubble bath and shampoo I got in that pack as my children slept soundly in our flat in the refuge. It was the first time I had felt comfortable and safe in a decade. The refuge supplied toys and clothes for me and my children, a food hamper too, and they supported me through my pregnancy.

The women in the refuge helped me claim benefits and get a council house, and now, 5 years on I'm working, my children are happy and healthy, we are doing so well.

Thanks to you and your daughter a life has literally been changed. You are both amazing Flowers

MaintainTheMolehill · 22/03/2020 14:42

What a lovely idea and what a thoughtful daughter you haveStar

My 8 year old daughter made me a card that said "thanks for making me like myself as much as I love you, which is difficult because I love you a lot" - there were tears Smile

sarahb083 · 22/03/2020 14:59

@Hopeisnotastrategy, your daughter has inspired me to do the same for my mum for mother's day. Thank you for the idea.

coffeeandcreamer · 22/03/2020 15:03

@evilherbivore
Could you please give us more info on how to buy these packages?

Bluetrews25 · 22/03/2020 15:06

Wow. You have raised her well, OP. What a truly lovely thing to do.

FaithInfinity · 22/03/2020 15:20

That’s such a wonderful idea!

I got a label maker, I’m so happy! Grin

livvymc · 22/03/2020 21:18

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult thanks so much for sharing that, I’m so glad that you and your children are safe and happy now Smile xx
