MOT due & Social distancing

I’ve had a letter to say my tax is up at the end of the month and I need an MOT. What with everything that’s going on it completely slipped my mind.

Question is, if we’re all supposed to be social distancing, would you take your car for an MOT?

My local garage can fit me in Monday and I have booked but now I’m thinking if that’s the right thing to do.

I’m worried about not being able to drive for the next couple of months if I need to go and get food.

However, I imagine shortly they will be asking garages to cut non essential services anyway and people wont be prosecuted for not having a valid MOT.

Splendid, we can get better from Coronavirus and then get hit by a car with failing brakes!

Of course you take it for an MOT.

I did go on the Gov website for tax renewals hoping their might be some advice or temporary relaxed rules but no. Not sure what happens if we go in lockdown, will you get an auto fine if tax is not renewed?

Why on earth would your tax not be renewed. Do it online! There’s no need to go anywhere - mines on direct debit.

The local garage is collecting the car, doing what is needed and returning back to the drive, so my dad doesn't need to go out.
Payment made through credit card.

Ask for this service, any garage will be glad to do this for the work at the moment

rang my garage last week to ask if they are taking MOT bookings as car tax due end of the month.

Eh? Do you only MOT you car because you tax is due? Surely you only MOT your car if your MOT is due?

Why on earth would lockdown mean you don't pay your tax?

I had a tyre replaced on Monday. I didn't need to come into close contact with anyone. Had to pay via card and of course it was over £30 so had to press buttons but that's fine, you just wash your hands once you get home. It's really not an issue.

I'm having mine collected and delivered, they will pick it up from home do the service and MOT and bring it back

MOTs have mostly been cancelled for months in NI due to issues with the equipment at the testing centres. Ours was due at the end of March, we got a letter with an exemption to the end of July, which I assume will be extended further because of coronavirus. I presume the rest of the UK will end up doing similar.

Mot is essential to make sure your car is safe, so yes still get it.
