Jet2 have been amazing today
Ryanair sent their prayers after cancelling all their flights
AIBU to think it would have been better if they had sent a fucking aeroplane?

OP posts:
Mummyoflittledragon · 22/03/2020 06:00

Those would be friends, who wanted you to join them on holiday? Hardly unbiased.

Ffs. Why anyone continued to go away after the first big cruise issue and Tenerife hotel lock down is beyond me!

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 06:03

We could stay on holiday, current deaths under 10
But we are returning early incase all borders & flights close

There had never been a time when closure has occurred before !

Never, ever !

B1rds0ngs519 · 22/03/2020 06:05

Not on a beach

The friends have been in different parts of the country, we didn't join them

Marnie76 · 22/03/2020 06:18

Unless you flew out in Months who, most people could foresee this coming. You just fancied a holiday and bugger the consequences. Sorry, I understand that you are now in a difficult position but you are not a child and it is your own fault. At least hold your hands up and admit it, I’m sure you will then get better advise and comments.

Marnie76 · 22/03/2020 06:19

In months who = months ago 😉

wecandothispeeps · 22/03/2020 06:25

YOU choose to do this, you made the decision to go despite the danger, and you really expect anyone anywhere to worry about getting you back??

Seriously?

The borders and flights were being stopped, airports were being closed across Asia TWO MONTHS ago, so of course you knew it could happen here. But you still choose to go.

We have thousands of people fighting for their lives in hospital, we have millions of vulnerable people that need food and medication to stay alive in the next few weeks, we are nearly at the point of a complete lockdown all that comes with it, and yet you think the priority of the government is to get back the idiots who thought they would chance it for a few days in the sun?!

Take a good look at yourself, this is a life lesson in taking personal responsibility op.

fuzzyduck1 · 22/03/2020 06:26

I agree with wecandothispeeps

6 months on a beach would be great
When birdsong (and me) flew out there was less than 40 cases in the country we ar in and less than 100 in the uk.
So it’s you lot that are spreading this around not us.
Plus there is loads of bog roll here. No one is panicing

We get a email from our travel agent saying our trip is cancelled when we are already here (not very helpful) new flights booked to get us home then we play Russian roulette when we are back in the up as we stand more chance of catching anything there than here!

The sad thing is we work in a job that keeps the internet alive so we need to get back to help keep the infer structure going so you lot can come on here and moan.

Love peace and long away kisses

tallah · 22/03/2020 06:28

We went away because advice two weeks ago was that you should still travel and there was no reason not to. it's escalated very quickly and you may not notice timescales as you're living in it but no need to abuse us that went away when we were told to do so! Get off your high horses and get over yourselves!

speakout · 22/03/2020 06:30

Two weeks ago the upcoming scenario was plain to see.
Only the blinkered or foolhardy would have chosen to travel.
We don't need government advice to show us the writing on the wall.

adaline · 22/03/2020 06:35

I can't believe people were still travelling two weeks ago.

The selfishness of humanity never ceases to amaze me.

daisypond · 22/03/2020 06:44

Nobody could have foreseen this
Most sensible people did, weeks ago.

We went away because advice two weeks ago was that you should still travel
I don’t think there has ever been advice that you should travel.

Trews2019 · 22/03/2020 07:00

Threads like this make me despair. If people can’t be trusted to not go on holiday, what chance do we have of expecting them to behave sensibly in their daily lives.

The sooner the government brings in lockdown the better. The public need protecting from their own stupidity.

carlywurly · 22/03/2020 07:21

I think while the idea of travel is unimaginable now, it really wasn't a month ago and we still thought we were going away. It was only really just over 2 weeks ago that I conclusively decided we weren't going anywhere regardless of whether we could get money back or not.

Travel wasn't banned until last Monday - it feels like months have passed in a single week. Several family members were close to getting stuck abroad but managed to get home.

londonrach · 22/03/2020 07:23

Anyone who fly out since jan should stay where they are. If plane travel had been banned then the uk wouldnt be in this situation now. Anyone who went on hol knew this was happening and selfish.

heartsonacake · 22/03/2020 07:25

Anyone who flew out in the last few weeks has brought this in themselves, so no, I don’t think EasyJet or Jet2 have any responsibilities towards them.

MarieG10 · 22/03/2020 07:30

I have friends abroad who were looking to fly home early as saw coming but the airline made them stick to their original flight time unless the airline contacted them earlier...so some are trying to be responsible but demand is huge

showmewhatyougot · 22/03/2020 07:32

Was that cheaper holiday worth it? Wink

AmelieTaylor · 22/03/2020 07:37

nobody could have foreseen this

Anyone with half a brain could have forseen this.

So what if you’d lost money on the flights?! It’s lost anyway once you’ve spent it.

Now you’re putting other people’s lives in danger because you felt like a holiday in a pandemic.

JFC

AmelieTaylor · 22/03/2020 07:38

@MarieG10. The airline didn’t make them. They could have paid to change flights.

MarieG10 · 22/03/2020 07:46

@AmelieTaylor

They wouldn't let them change unless they bought new tickets...and they said planes were pretty full

SubordinateThatClause · 22/03/2020 07:59

I know someone who flew out on holiday to Thailand a few days ago 🤦🏻‍♀️

bumblingbovine49 · 22/03/2020 08:08

There have been many posts in theaat few weeks from people who were going on holiday as the 'whole.thing was being exaggerated' or ' nothing was going to stop them traveling'. I have been blown away by it. Also the whole.' nobody could have foreseen this' is beginning to grate a bit with me

HOWEVER some kindness to the op in a difficult situation wouldn't go amiss.
Op I.am.glad you are going home but please please please change your attitude.to this and practice responsible social.distancing after you have self isolated for 14 days at home .

You may find.rhe self isolating difficult I'd you don't have food in so do some.planning and ask for help so that you don't have to go to 5 different shops when you get home to get enough food in . Self isolation means all members of your household not going out AT ALL for at least 7 days and preferably 14 days . Then social distancing.means no unnecessary going out and no ' face to.face socialising for fun at all'

EmeraldShamrock · 22/03/2020 08:14

Didn't advise us NOT to travel
I shake my head in despair. In fairness they didn't advise much after washing your hands, I think they expected people to use some common sense. 🤣

Wannabangbang · 22/03/2020 08:19

And this is why the government, all governments should have banned flights a long time ago. People's own judgements and holiday companies are not putting humanity first!

It's clear to see people need to be forced into proper lockdown as this isn't some horror film its real. And we knew this was coming last year when it started in China and because the governments around the world decided to do nothing and people with jollies decided to do nothing we now have a massive situation one our NHS is going to struggle to cope with.

It came from china, then went to Italy all because of people wanting to holiday then it went everywhere else. I'm shocked tbh that this has been allowed to happen, why is freedom of movement more important than peoples lives i shall never no. Bottom line is MONEY yada yada but at the end of the day was it worth it, no it bloody wasn't, people are dying and seriously ill in their thousands and we will have no economy left anyway. So not worth it

Anyone else with a holiday coming up don't go you selfish person!!!

Livelovebehappy · 22/03/2020 08:50

The problem is the way airlines are playing this. I have flights to the Canaries booked via Ryan Air to leave the end of April. It’s highly unlikely that everything will be back to normal then, but Ryan Air have not cancelled our flight and I suspect they are holding out for people to cancel themselves which means you don’t get a refund. If they cancel, you can of course get a refund, which is why they are holding out til the last minute. We have Airbnb booked but again cannot get a refund unless we can show them our flights have been cancelled. It’s just a waiting game.
