My neighbours have found the solution to not visiting vulnerable people

It really is genius! 😷😄
Next door family have had sore throats and runny noses.
Done the right thing by isolating themselves. (Mum, dad and 2 primary age kids).
Her parents have called around for about an hour. Nothing urgent. Just wanted to say hello and chat.
So they stood in the back garden and all yelled at each other through a crack in the window!
They have been isolated for a week now. Parents live a few miles away, so had to drive here. All are fine with tech/phone/facetime

Hopefully gives someone a smile today

They’ve absolutely done the right thing 👍

nicknackpaddy · 21/03/2020 12:54

We did the same with my elderly parents yesterday.

Any juicy gossip?

EmpressLangClegInChair · 21/03/2020 12:56

My sister’s doing that with our parents for Mother’s Day.

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 21/03/2020 13:02

Not very juicy but
Granny has signed up to the online exercise class. If granny can do it, so can you.

We are doing this tomorrow with my mum. She will stay in her conservatory and we will be in her back garden (accessed through a side gate) shouting through the window. Toddler can run off some steam in the garden as we dont have one.

lpchill · 21/03/2020 13:10

I was shouting up to my mums balcony flat yesterday. She's self isolating as she is in the risk category. Had a few funny looks but it protects my mum. We also facetime daily

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 21/03/2020 13:10

I agree! Grin

TheFuckingDogs · 21/03/2020 13:14

We live next door to my parents - we will have a joint Mother’s Day lunch in the garden, them in their bit, is in ours, music and booze in the middle!

BillyAndTheSillies · 21/03/2020 13:17

We are in with symptoms, my mum had planned to do the same tomorrow but DS(4) said he'd be sad if he saw my parents and couldn't hug them so we will stick to FaceTime.

They need to learn British Sign Language. Grin

I'm feeling smug because I learned as a child. Although less smug because no one I want to talk to knows it, so...

Windyatthebeach · 21/03/2020 13:23

On Thursday I was told of some 80yo +women who took flasks and deck chairs to The Dales and sat apart for a catch up!!

NoProblem123 · 21/03/2020 13:25

Maybe they were dropping off shopping 😁

MyNameHasBeenTaken · 21/03/2020 13:26

Good plan perking!
I think it should be taught in schools anyway (when we have schools! )

FlushedZebra · 21/03/2020 13:29

We've done this with my mum Smile

We stood well back in the garden, she came to back door.

DH saw four older women walk past our house yesterday, single file 2m apart. Not a bad idea!

puppymouse · 21/03/2020 13:30

Doing same with DM. She's vulnerable so we stand on their driveway to see them. Just FaceTimed DF too. It'll be ok. My inner introvert is quietly content.

TyrionsNextWife · 21/03/2020 13:30

Did anyone see the photos of a young woman outside a nursing home, showing her engagement ring to her grandad? It was so nice Smile

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2020 13:32

Why wait for school! You can teach yourself the alphabet from the internet.

Oh, and I've just looked and someone's offering special Covid deals for online courses. There's enterprise.Grin

They need to learn British Sign Language.

I've started doing that. Not cos of this virus, but because I've always wanted to learn. I really think it should be taught in schools and be part of our vocab.

CrazyTimesAreOccurring · 21/03/2020 13:34

my inner introvert is quietly content made me laugh. Only this morning I thought oh thank goodness no worries when I see people to know if to hug or kiss them (I never know with some)

I've just been round to my parents with their shopping and prescriptions, took ds as they haven't seen him for a couple of weeks. We went round their side gate and stayed in the garden, they stood a few meters away at their back door. So hard not being able to give them a hug Sad.

BettyIsMyFavouriteSquirrel · 21/03/2020 13:36

That’s really made me smile 🤣
