AIBU in thinking that one good thing that's come of all this CV nightmare, is that the wider MN community will have at least been spared eleventy billion threads on what to buy for a teacher's gift this year...

I have decided that if the toilet roll shortage continues, I'll stop using the 2 daily fybogel sachets that keep me regular. Less loo roll needed and a saving of £15 a month. I'll be able to buy 3 artisan loaves with that. 🍞

For all my kids lives, I have fixed everything for them, if someone hurts them I'll make them feel better, if something gets cancelled they were looking forward to, I will replace it with something else, if they want something for Christmas or Birthdays, I will make sure they get it no matter what.

Since this started, my daughters Communion has been cancelled, my youngest son has missed the last months of school before starting high school, my daughters birthday sleepover will be cancelled and lots more however my kids have shocked me by how well they are doing even though I can't fix any of this. They are talking to me more, playing together, my daughter has amazed me with how self sufficient she is in entertaining herself.
I have lost control of their happiness but this time has taught me that it's not up to me to fix everything, they are quite capable of dealing with hard times all by themselves.

Less pollution, no headlice! Lots of quality time with kids, lots of time in the garden, innovative cooking with what we’ve got...

BeetrootRocks · 21/03/2020 14:32

In the longer term it might mean more recognition and pay for all the people like cleaners, supermarket etc who have been taken for granted

The appreciation and need for plenty of green space in towns and cities might increase so they can be better protected and cared for/ created

quirkychick · 21/03/2020 14:44

Lots of support on fb groups from other SEND parents and families.

Dd1 (14) is reorganising and cleaning her bedroom and learning to use a hoover!

I agree about the gift of time.

DinosApple · 21/03/2020 15:37

No bra!

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/03/2020 16:32

I've perfected the art of 'Corona-chic' style fashion and beauty

Grown out hairstyle with visible roots and long fringe
Tracksuit bottoms, leggings and pyjamas as day wear
Dressing gown all day why bother taking it off etc
Makeup = the 'natural' look . Very natural.

MotorwayDiva · 21/03/2020 16:43

Day one have already deep cleaned bathrooms, tidied house and started spring cleaning. Also been for a family walk. Has been much more relaxed than usual weekends. Key workers so won't be home all week, but lovely to come back to clean house.

Holdmenow · 21/03/2020 16:47

I am thoroughly enjoying being at home with my dc and DH...we are spending real quality time together!! No work or activities stealing us away right now...it’s bliss!!

Rockbird · 21/03/2020 16:57

I'm 10lbs down already due to being more careful with our food supplies. I need to lose loads of weight and this is a real kick start. I shall emerge from my cocoon like a lovely svelte butterfly Grin

UnrulySalvia · 21/03/2020 18:12

Re-learning the meaning of a "treat". It's kind of nice to have something other than vanity stoping me from just going to the shop and buying another chocolate bar.

lachy · 21/03/2020 18:40

I'm becoming more appreciative of the efforts that other people have on my life. I've been used to going to Tesco because I can't be bothered to cook. I can't do it now, and I am ashamed that I took that ability for granted.

I'm more aware of what matters, being in contact with friends and family.

I've come to realise that I like a slower pace of life and have loved today...no rushing here, there and everywhere just pottering around at home.

Coronavirus is devastating but I hope it makes us realise how much we've taken for granted and that we all realise how precious life is.

Lorddenning1 · 21/03/2020 18:58

I'm also hoping I will have clear skin, not worn make up all week, giving it a chance to breath :)

You have found the silver lining Grin

Sh05 · 21/03/2020 20:37

Definitely less laundry and not worrying that all the black/ navy socks are washed and paired. Both my boys have a very strict uniform policy and socks have to be black/navy.

StCharlotte · 21/03/2020 23:50

We'll definitely be spared the humiliation of nul points in Eurovision because it's been cancelled

Not my silver lining, I was going Sad

Notcontent · 22/03/2020 00:06

Dd (nearly 14) usually has a really busy schedule and not much time for anything. Now she has lots of time on her hands I am going to be teaching her some life skills. She is already ok with cooking but going to get her to do more cooking, washing, cleaning, etc.

ginnybag · 22/03/2020 00:40

Headlice! This may be the end of headlice. No one mixing for weeks and weeks after all.

DD is delighted that she can have nail polish on - she's 10.

I will finally have the time and the lack of distractions that all my unfinished DIY and spring cleaning will get done.

I'm looking forward to time to homeschool DD. I've always liked the idea and, in recent months so has she, but as the primary earner, its never been an option.

My writing will get time spent on it.

TheMemoryLingers · 22/03/2020 00:45

Oh, StCharlotte, that's rough. I'd have watched it and suffered the inevitable disappointment. Perhaps they'll repeat some Eurovision classics - 1981 would be good.

lightlypoached · 22/03/2020 01:13

My DS17 is teaching himself the piano. He's starting with one of my dead dad's favourite pieces "because grandpa always loved it" I could cry with pride and my heart burst with love and joy.

I'm a soppy old bastard.

Oh, and no commuting (work still v busy though), and far fewer noisy planes overhead.

Smashing thread OP

nicknackpaddy · 22/03/2020 05:15

Not needing to check the weather forecast !

StandingStrongForNow · 22/03/2020 08:18

DH’s work has been transferred to online. He’ll be working all day but no more staying away all week.

SimonJT · 22/03/2020 08:40

I haven’t worn anything but pants since last Saturday, my washing machine is thanking me.

Bridetobe920 · 22/03/2020 08:43

Not lightheaded as in funny, but I’m an CFS/ME patient so lockdown will make it much easier for me to pace. I’m hoping to get some gains in recovery!

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 22/03/2020 08:44

DS shaved his head yesterday, blimey... For a few minutes I was thankful we are not expected put or meeting with a soul for a few weeks.
