Do we need to disinfect our shopping?

I just read that the virus can live on surfaces for ages. Do I need to wash my shopping before it comes in?
Is anyone else?
No idea what to do.

In Spain we’ve been advised to leave things by the door for 12 hours (packets etc) and wash hands, shower, launder clothes as soon as we get in. Veg that you’re going to eat raw needs rinsing in Milton/similar. Anything else is okay because you’re going to cook it. Clean the soles of your going outside shoes with a diluted bleach solution and leave them by the door.

I wondered this the other day when I was dropping off some shopping to my grandparents. I had touched the bag handles and then they picked it up off the step.

We have only ordered wrapped goods which I shall be opening in the garden wearing rubber gloves, decanting into other bags or boxes without touching the items and throwing the original wrappers straight into a bin bag and into the outside dustbin. Can’t be too careful, family members’ lives could depend on it.

I do. I clean all packaging and wash all fruit and veg.
I clean all door and cupboard handles, phones, microwave, key boards, everything people touch.

At Costco, there were staff spraying the trolleys for each new customer.

I suggested it to the various CEOs from Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose who have been emailing me personally Hmm to assure me that they are taking Corona Virus seriously.

Haven't heard back, but will report when I do.. Grin

This has only recently dawned on me, because the early advice concentrated so much on hand washing. I'm going to be following the Spanish govt advice, so thanks for that girlinadirtyshirt. My kitchen is already much cleaner than it has been for months.
